Abhinav Iyer: A Prominent Name In India’s Poker Scene

Abhinav Iyer is a prominent name in India’s poker scene whose poker journey is nothing short of remarkable. Boasting close to $2 million in live tournament earnings and more than INR 9.6 crores in online winnings, his poker journey began in college days in Chennai. He later moved to Australia to pursue his post-graduation degree, and during his time in Australia, he frequently visited Crown Casino to improve his game. Also this was when he discovered online poker through PokerStars. There has been no looking back since then as Iyer has established himself as one of India’s top poker players, both on the live felts and in the online arena.

Iyer first became known in the live arena in 2014, cashing in low-stakes events in Melbourne. He shot into international fame in 2019 when he won the APT Main Event for $98,055 and followed it up that year with a historic win in the WSOP 2019 Closer for $565,346 – his career-best score to date. This victory made him India’s first solo WSOP bracelet winner, solidifying his place among poker elites.

After his historic WSOP victory, Iyer continued to showcase his prowess across several international events. From final-tabling prestigious tournaments to winning the USOP Mini High Roller Event in Hanoi last year, he has added several big scores to his resume. Most recently, he competed in the APT Taipei Poker Classic 2024, where he cashed three tournaments, including a runner-up finish in the High Roller Double Stack Event for $44,690.
