Christopher Vitch emerged victorious in Event #48: $1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha, while Pedro Neves took down Event #38: $1,500 MONSTER STACK No-Limit Hold’em. Here is a quick recap of victories from Day 24 of the series.

Chris Hunichen Breaks Through, Claiming First Bracelet and $2.8 Million In Event#47

At one point during the wild three-handed play of the 2024 World Series of Event #47: $100,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em final table, Chris Hunichen was all-in and on the verge of elimination. He had shoved his remaining stack preflop with pocket fives against the A-J of six-time bracelet winner Jeremy Ausmus. An Ace appeared on the turn, leaving Hunichen drawing to two outs to stay alive.

Hunichen got up for a handshake with Ausmus but it was premature as 5s landed on the river, giving Hunichen a set and huge double up. After a back-and-forth battle, he was able to close out the win, claiming his maiden WSOP bracelet and a career-best score of $2,838,389 as the champion.

This event drew 112 entries for a $10,836,000 prize pool, which was shared by the top 17 players. Plenty of notables cashed, including recent $50,000 buy-in champ Sergio Aido (16th for $209,346), two-time bracelet winner Nick Petrangelo (13th for $209,346), bracelet winner Andrew Lichtenberger (12th for $209,346), three-time bracelet winner Justin Bonomo (10th for $219,813),  bracelet winner Isaac Haxton (8thfor $219,813), and two-time bracelet winner Justin Saliba (6th for $512,465).

The event ran over the course of three days with Daniel Aharoni exiting in seventh place ($396,396) to bring day 2 to a close. Viktor Blom held the lead among the final six, with Hunichen in second chip position when the third and final day began.

Ausmus scored the first knockout of the day by busting Justin Saliba. He had A-Q hold against the K-J of Justin Saliba, who earned $512,465 as the sixth-place finisher. Later, Kornuth’s A-5 held against Ponakovs’ K-J suited to send him to the rail in fifth place ($681,796).

Ausmus doubled into the lead with his Q-J beating the A-J of Hunichen. He then extended his lead when his K-6 bested the pocket nines of Kornuth. Ausmus turned trip kings and held from there to send Kornuth home in fourth place ($932,725). The next elimination was scored by Hunichen who busted Viktor Blom. The latter ran his Kc Js into the Ad 7d to exit in third place ($1,311,091).

Hunichen held a 2:1 chip lead over Ausmus when heads-up play began. While Ausmus was able to edge into the lead for a bit, Hunichen regained the lead before the final hand arose. In the final hand, Hunichen raised with 9d 7d and Ausmus three-bet from the big blind with Js Jd. Hunichen called and the flop brought 9h 5s 2d. Ausmus led out for 7,400,000 and Hunichen moved all-in. Ausmus called. The Kc hit the turn and the 9c completed the board, giving Hunichen trips to win the coveted title.

Only eight players returned for the third and final day. Germany’s high-roller Christopher Frank became the first elimination of the day. He only had two big blinds remaining and shoved with 10s 9s 8d 4c against the eventual runner-up Taylor’s As Kh Qs Qd and did not get any help from the board. He was followed by Kharlin Sued who exited in seventh place ($38,877).

Vitch dominated throughout the entire day, engaging in as many pots as possible. His aggressive style led to him busting both Ioannis Angelou Konstas (6th for $51,396), and Jay Harwood (5th for $68,702).

Vitch remained a dominant force during three-handed play where Prociak and Taylor held almost even stacks at a point. Prociak began rebuilding his stack but was ultimately denied his third bracelet when his hand failed to beat Taylor’s pocket kings. This set the stage for the heads-up for the title.

Vitch began the heads-up with 32,000,000 against Taylor’s 12,240,000 stack. The heads-up was over in less than one hour with Vitch maintaining his massive chip lead and winning the title. On the final hand, Taylor jammed for roughly 2,000,000 on the river of the Jh 6d 2h 9s 5h runout. Vitch snap-called with Kh10s 7c 4c. Taylor made a queen-high flush but Vitch hit a king-high flush, taking it down to claim his third bracelet.  Thomas Taylor had to settle for $175,179 as the runner-up finisher.

Only seven players returned for Day 5 to battle it out for the prestigious bracelet. Tim Reilly was the first player to exit, finishing in seventh place for $188,660. Reilly was followed by Brian Roff in sixth place for $244,137. Roff ran his ace-nine into Neves’ ace-jack. But between Reilly and Roff’s bustout, Jose Carlos Brito was lucky enough to double up. The next to fall was Guangming Li who shoved with tens and was called by Brito with ace-seven. He was eliminated in fifth place for $318,077 after Brito hit the ace on the river. Brito three-bet all-in with king-ten and was called by Neves with ace-king. The board did not provide Brito any help, and his tournament came to an end in fourth place for $417,213.
