Weekly High-Five: Anshul Raj & Ashish Kumar Headline Top Scorers Of The Week

During the Holi week, we saw poker players engage in spirited battles and celebrate the joy of the game with vibrant intensity. Amidst the festivities, several massive guaranteed poker tournaments unfolded, creating an electrifying atmosphere of camaraderie and competition. The eve of Holi was highlighted by PokerBaazi`s 5 Crores GTD NPS#149 Main Event, the crown jewel of the 50 + Crores GTD National Poker Series India 2024. The 5 Crore GTD tournament featuring a buy-in of INR 5,750 drew in more than 10k entries, generating INR 5,06,05,000 prize pool, which was finally shared by 963 players. In the end, Anshul Raj and Ashish Kumar clinched the top two spots in the tournament, winning INR 41.59 Lakhs and 44.86 Lakhs, respectively.

5 Crore GTD NPS India Main Event Finale (Sunday)

 The finale (Day2) of the event on Sunday saw 963 players battle it out for poker supremacy. After a grueling  eight-and-a-half-hour battle, Anshul ‘RajAnshul’ Raj stole the show, claiming his first NPS medal) and a life-changing INR 41.60 Lakhs payday, following a heads-up deal with Ashish ‘Imgabru’ Kumar, who walked away with Silver Medal (his first NPS Gold medal of the year) and a staggering INR 44.86 Lakhs to emerge as the top scorer of the week. He was followed by Anshul Raj (2nd for INR 44,86,040) and Shriram ‘MasterBet10’ Varma (3rd for  INR 25,94,019 in the NPS Main Event.

The second biggest event unfolding on Sunday night was Spartan Poker’s 1 Crore GTD Half Buy-In Millionaire. Featuring just INR 5,500, the second running of this event in 2024 saw a massive field of 3,730 entries and paid out 439 players out of its massive INR 1 Crore GTD prize pool. From Qualifier 9 to the Day 2 finale, Vikas ‘Sun787’ Thakur forged ahead and claimed his first-ever Spartan Poker title and a life-changing INR 16.37 Lakhs payday, following a gripping six-hour showdown during the finale.  

Shweta ‘Shitolos’ Malhotra, known for her fourth place in the ITM#69 Main Event and a runner-up finish in the ITM#66 Sunday Supersonic, ended her run in second place, earning her INR 9 Lakhs, her second-biggest score on SpartanPoker. Vikhyat ‘Super Saiyan’ Ahlawat showcased his unwavering skill, finishing third in the Half Buy-in Millionaire for INR 5.90 Lakhs.

75 Lakhs GTD NPS#145 Sunday Marathon (Sunday)

Another major highlight on Sunday was PokerBaazi’s 75 Lakhs GTD NPS#145 Sunday Marathon. Sporting a buy-in of INR 5,750, the Sunday marquee did well on its turnout, pulling in 1653 entries and generating INR 82,65,000 in prize pool, which was finally distributed among the top 267 players. In the end, Sanat ‘mehro2511’ Mehrotra emerged victorious, clinching his first NPS Gold of the year and an impressive INR 10,02,545 in top prize. Ryan ‘AceFromSpace’ Cardoso, who won a Gold (NPS#35 (6-Max) SPRINT) and two Bronze Medals (NPS#23 (PLO-5) & NPS#118 Marathon), picked up his first NPS Silver Medal in the NPS#145 Sunday Marathon and INR 7.69 Lakhs in prize money.

The majority of top scorers during the week emerged from PokerBaazi’s National Poker Series (NPS). On eve of Holi in Poker Baazi’s high stakes arena, Varun ‘Sareenv17021959’ Sareen exploded onto the scene on Friday night. This dazzling newcomer took down the NPS India 2024’s richest buy-in tournament – the 1 Crore GTD NPS #134 Super HighRoller, which had a buy-in of INR 34,500.  He outlasted a field of 447 entries, claiming  INR 19,95,408, by far the third largest score claimed by a player last week.

Another massive guaranteed tourney running as part of PokerBaazi’s National Poker Series (NPS) was the 60 Lakhs GTD NPS#127 Deepstack Championship. Sporting a buy-in of INR 8,625, the high-value tourney drew in more than a thousand runners to crush its guarantee and generate INR 77.33 Lakhs in prize pool. In the end, walking away with the lion’s share of the prizepool was none other than Nitesh ‘batmanpok’ Katiyar, a former MS #7 – Friday Millionaire champion, who walked away with the coveted NPS Gold Medal and a jaw-dropping INR 10.17 Lakhs payday in the Thursday headliner.
