Wai Hang Wong Wins 2024 Irish Poker Tour Lunasa Lunacy Main Event

Irish player Wai Hang Wong scored his first ever live event as he won the 2024 Irish Poker Tour Lunasa Lunacy Main Event, walking away with €20,430 and a trophy. Wai Hang Wong is an online poker pro who won a satellite event at Paddy Power Poker to get a seat at the IPT Lunasa Main Event. In addition to the cash prize, Wong also received a package for the upcoming Irish Poker Tour Killarney Main Event. 

With this victory, Wai Hang Wong opened his Hendon Mob profile with a win in his first live tournament. A total of 625 players gathered around to compete in the €250 No-limit Hold’em Main Event, creating a €129,672 prize pool, which exceeded the €100k Guaranteed prize pool. 2024 Irish Poker Tour Lunasa Lunacy Main Event Final Table Recap and Standings 

Out of 625 players, 25 players returned to the final day, and it was soon down to 16 players. With two tables remaining, the action fast forward rapidly, starting the final table. 

Wai Hang Wong entered the final table as the chip leader and held it until the final table. Short-stacked players were the first to exit the final table. Ben Cole exited in 9th place for €2,800. Niall Phelan soon followed Cole and bowed out in 8th for €3,650. 

Sean Jones was eliminated in 7th place, earning €4,600. In the next hand, Douglas Culligan was eliminated in 6th, taking €5,760 for the deep run. The next elimination came after an hour as Oleksii Bekh departed in 5th place (€7,100).

Thirty minutes later, Joe O’Neil was eliminated, banking €9,000 for his 4th place finish, exceeding his live career earnings of over $250k. Soon after the elimination, the game stopped for a minute as Wai Hang Wong, Nerijus Andriuska, and Con Collins discussed a 3-way ICM-based deal. 

Wai Hang Wong took the first place prize money of €20,430 and the trophy, while Nerijus Andriuska earned €19,345 for his runner-up finish and Con Collins received €15,385 for his 3rd place finish.

Aside from the Main Event, Steven Bartley bagged the stop’s largest single score after outlasting 117 entries in the €250 Paddy Power Mystery Bounty. Bartley turned his €250 investments into a cool €10,800, including bounties.

Irish Poker Tour ambassador Darren Harbinson also won a title, outlasting 66 opponents in the €400 Lunasa 400 and took home €6,750 for his victory.
