USOP Hai Phong Main Event Begins Today: A Look Back at Past USOP Main Event Winners

The U Series of Poker (USOP) is one of the most regarded and celebrated poker series in the Asian poker circuit. It brings together some of the best poker talent from across the continent and beyond, as they eye the top spots and the impressive prize amounts.

Initially, launched in 2021, U Series Of Poker (USOP), interestingly, hosted its first competitive tournament online through an app. After witnessing the grand success of the online version, the organisers decided to move the brand to live events. Subsequently, they held their first-ever live tournament series in 2023. 

Ever since the brand has successfully hosted multiple events featuring mega prize pools. Among the sparkly line-up of events on schedule at USOP is the coveted Main Event. The biggest event on the schedule, the Main Event features the highest GTD on offer. Naturally, every player eyes the top spot of the Main Event to take home a lion’s share of prize money and the prestigious title.

The USOP brand is currently hosting its first-ever event in Hai Phong, in collaboration with Crown Poker Club and Lucky Poker Tour. With 66  events on the schedule, the series is nearing its conclusion with just 4 days remaining. Today marks the start of the most-awaited VN₫ 15,000,000,000 ($609,500) GTD Main Event, with the first of four starting flights beginning at 11:00 AM local time. Players can take part in this headline event for a buy-in of VN₫ 30,000,000 (~USD 1,200). Here is the schedule!

USOP Taiwan 2023

The first-ever live tournament series hosted by U Series of Poker was at the beginning of 2023. The USOP Taiwan 2023 series took place at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club) in Taiwan. 

The Main Event of the inaugural series recorded 1,043 entries. Notably, this marked a record for the biggest international event turnout in Taiwan. It crushed the TWD 10 Million GTD to put up a jaw-dropping TWD 18,210,800 as the final prize pool.

Edwin Dela Cruz won the inaugural live USOP Taiwan Series Main Event to bank TWD 3,060,000 (~$100.8K) as top winnings. The Filipino thus became the first ever USOP live festival Main Event champion to proudly walk away with the title and the trophy.

USOP Vietnam 2023

After a successful first edition in Taiwan, USOP returned for a second edition. This time it was moved to another Southeast Asian country, Vietnam for USOP Vietnam 2023. The series took place between 14th and 24th April 2023 at the Crown Poker Club. The Main Event of the series took  place between 20th and 24th April 2023. 

This edition saw a local player Đại Ngọc Nguyễn overpower Singapore’s Benjamin Sai at the final heads-up to clinch the USOP Vietnam Main Event. It was after four years that the Vietnamese player’s hunt for a title ended at the USOP. Nguyễn cashed VND 3,550,000,000 (~$151,100) in winnings and walked away with the USOP Main Event trophy.

USOP Hanoi 2023

The third edition was held in September 2023 again in Vietnam’s Hanoi. It was held at the Crown Poker Club between 1st and 11th September 2023. 

This third edition saw Indian poker player Vishal Ojha emerging as the champion by taking down the prestigious USOP 2023 Hanoi Main Event. The pro had a successful campaign against Tan Xiao Hui to ship the prestigious title and the top spot at the highly anticipated USOP 2023 Hanoi Main Event. Majorly, an online reg, Vishal Ojha made big waves at this record-breaking field of 1,336 entries. With the top spot and title, he became the proud owner of the USOP trophy and a pay cheque of VND 4,952,000,000 (~₹1,70,69,357). 

USOP Da Nang 2023

USOP returned in November again, this time again in Vietnam, but in a different city namely Da Nang. This fourth edition was held at the Furama Resort between the 17th to 27th of November 2023.

USOP Da Nang 2023 saw Singapore’s The Naing take down the coveted Main Event of the USOP Da Nang 2023. He entered into the final table as the chip leader holding a stack of 15,700,000 chips. He continued to dominate and keep his opponents in check throughout, eventually tasting victory. 

Naing pocketed a paycheck of a lion’s share of VND 5,720,000,000 (~$2,35,973), out of the total final prize pool of VND 34,810,800,000 (~$1,434,000), outlasting a total 1,595 entries in the process. Who will win the main event in Hai Phong? It is too early to say as there many top pros attending this event and it could be anyone’s game in the end.
