September 19 marked a memorable day for Team India on the Asian circuit, with not one, not even two but an impressive three Indians clinching victories at two prominent Asian stops. The two of the three wins came at the 2024 USOP Hai Phong at Dream Dragon Resort where Team India’s Gagandeep Malik and Deepankur Gupta clinched side event titles. The third title came at the PokerStars Manila Megastack where Vishwajit Patil shone for India with a victory in the series’ Turbo Event.
India’s Gagandeep Malik Wins 2024 USOP Hai Phong 5-Card PLO
Coming back to the USOP Hai Phone, Team India has already raked in over a dozen of final table finishes but September 19 was a historic moment for the team with two Indians Gagandeep Malik and Deepankur Gupta scoring victories.
Two-time WPT India champion Gagandeep Malik, who recently finished third in the Mini High Roller, won Event #48: VN₫ 4.5 Million 5-Card PLO after outlasting a field of 52 players to win VN₫ 82.611 million (INR2.81 Lakhs) after a heads-up deal with Russia’s Nikolai Babushkin who banked VN₫ 71.03 million. This marked Malik’s first USOP title and overall fifth title of his live poker career.
Another Indian to make his mark in this event was Anmol Mehta who finished third, earning VN₫ 35 Million (INR1.19 Lakhs). This was his third cash and second final table finish of the ongoing series. India’s Chirag Sodha also made it to the final table in Event #48, earning VN₫ 8.30 Million (INR 28,185) -his third cash of the series.

Deepankur Gupta Wins 2024 USOP Hai Phong Hyper Turbo Event
The second victory for India came in the final side event on the day’s (September 19) schedule, Event #49: VN₫ 4 Million Hyper Turbo. Featuring VN₫ 4 Million, the event drew a field of 115 (85 unique) entries, generating a VN₫ 389,160,000 ($ 15,860) prize pool. In the end, the lion’s share of the prize pool went to India’s Deepankur Gupta who eventually bested Vietnam’s Thi Anh Tuyet Nguyen in heads-up to claim the VN₫ 112 Million (INR 3.81 Lakhs) top prize!
This marked Gupta’s overall fifth live title and fourth title of 2024. In April this year, he clinched victory in VIPT Hanoi Event #11: Vietnam Open for $49,525. Later in July, he shipped the Wynn Las Vegas $200 NLHE for $3,492 and followed that up with a victory in the Venetian DeepStack Championship Poker Series $600 NLHE Epic Stack for $10,247.
Gupta’s latest win was also his second cash at USOP Hai Phong, following his 53rd place in the Mini Main Event for VN₫ 32 Million (INR1.09 Lakhs). He has now more than $114k in total live tournament cashes.

Nishant Sharma Shines With 5th Place Finish in USOP Hai Phong Super High Roller
Fresh off representing Bengaluru Allstars at the Pocket52 Poker Sports League Season 6 finale in Goa, the two-time Poker Dream Main Event champion Nishant Sharma made his mark with a remarkable fifth-place finish in Event #39: VN₫ 88 Million Super High Roller. Sharma banked a hefty VN₫ 645.70 Million (INR 21.98 Lakhs), continuing his streak across major live events in Asia. Notably, this final table score for India also came on September 19, making it a historic day for Team India.
Event #39: VN₫ 88 Million Super High Roller was star-studded affair, running from September 18-19 and drawing in 137 entries for a VN₫ 10,402,400,000 (~US$ 422,690) prize pool, which was finally shared by top 21 finishers. In the end, the lion’s share went to Australia’s William Jia, who eventually defeated Romania’s Bogdan Andrei Munteanu to claim his second USOP title and VN₫ 2.101 Billion ($85,476).
