The second day of the 2024 USOP Hai Phong saw record-breaking numbers in the VN₫ 9 Million Madness Kick Off Event. The festival opener recorded a record 1,324 entries across four starting flights, creating a prize pool of over VN₫ 10 Billion and doubling up its guarantee.
Day 1A: 183 entries / 23 advanced
Day 1B: 204 entries / 26 advanced
Day 1C: 492 entries / 62 advanced
Day 1D: 445 entries / 56 advanced
However, only 167 players advanced to Day 2 from these four flights with Day 1C flight leader Johnni Nielsen (1,100,000 – 138 bbs) leading them in chips. Trailing him in chips are Day 1D chip leader Pham Bao and Vu Ta Nhat with 761,000 and 716,000 in chips, respectively.

Also in contention are five Indians led by Anmol Mehta (290,000) who qualified from Day 1C, which saw the largest crowd with 492 entries. The four other Indians qualifying to Day 2 include Gagandeep Malik (215,000 – Day 1C), PokerStars India ambassador Siddharth Karia (198,000 – Day 1D), Vijayvergiya Ashwin (95,000 – Day 1D) and Chirag Sodha (75,000 – Day 1D).

Tao Wei Chang Takes Down Midweek Event
Another big winner crowned yesterday was Taiwan’s Tao Wei Chang who emerged victorious from a field of 43 entries in the VN₫ 6,600,000 (~US$ 264) buy-in Midweek Event to take home VN₫ 92,000,000 from a prize pool of VN₫ 242,500,000 (~USD 9,870). He eventually overcame China’s Ledong Zhou, who walked away with VN₫ 56,000,000 for his runner-up finish.

Australia’s Anton Lu Wins Mini High Roller For His Second USOP Title
The second day of the ongoing series saw several big winners with Australia’s Anton Lu walking away with the biggest score after his victory in the VN₫ 22,000,000 buy-in Mini High Roller where he bested a field of 31 entries and overcame China’s Yilu Yuan in the heads-up battle to take home VN₫ 274,100,000 (~US$ 11,140) top prize and his career second USOP title.
The final hand saw Lu check raise on the Qs-5d-6h flop and then shove on the turn 3s. Yilu Yuan called with Qc 7d for top pair, trailing Kd Kh of Lu. The river came down as 9c, sealing victory for Lu.
This event generated VN₫ 582,800,000 ($ 23,685) in prize pool and only top 4 players made the money.

Zsolt Soros Takes Down Pot Limit Omaha Turbo
Featuring a buy-in of VN₫ 6,000,000 (~US$ 240), the Pot Limit Omaha Turbo drew only 14 entries for a VN₫ 71,000,000 (~US$ 2,885) prize pool. In the end, Hungary’s Zsolt Soros won it for his first USOP win and a payout of VN₫ 20,576,000 (~US$ 836). The tournament ended in a heads-up deal with China’s Quncheng Fang banking VN₫ 28,140,000 for his runner-up finish.
Nguyen Trung Hieu Takes Down ‘Win The Button Hyper Turbo‘
The Win The Button Hyper Turbo with buy in at just VN₫ 4,000,000 ($ 160) drew 21 entries for a prize pool of VN₫ 71,064,000 ($ 2,890). Three players were paid out and an ICM deal was struck with players then playing for the trophy. Vietnam’s Nguyen Trung Hieu won it for his first USOP title and VN₫ 24,841,000 ($ 1,009). This win marked Vietnam’s first trophy of the festival.
