The recent events at the ongoing 2024 Triton Super High Roller Series in Monte Carlo saw two players clinching Triton trophies. Event No. 6, $100k NLH, saw Belgium’s Pieter Aerts claiming his second career Triton title, while in Event No. 7, $30k NLH Bounty Quattro, Russia’s Artur Martirosian eliminated all 8 players at the final table, winning his first Triton title. Here’s a look at Events 6 and 7 of the Triton SHRS Monte Carlo.

Pieter Aerts Clinches His Career Second Triton Title

Belgian poker pro-Pieter Aerts claimed his first Triton title in 2022, and it took him two years to score another victory. Aerts won Event No. 6, the $100K buy-in NLH 8-Handed, at the 2024 Triton Super High Roller Series Monte Carlo, adding a staggering $2,234,587* to his career earnings. He defeated Malaysian poker player and former Natural8 Ambassador Michael Soyza in heads-up play; Soyza was seeking his third career title but had to settle for the prize money.

The tournament ran from November 5-6. A total of 131 players gathered inside the Sporting Monte Carlo poker room, building up a total prize pool of $13,100,000. Out of the 131 entries, 52 players advanced to Day 2, all vying to make it into the money. The top 23 players received a share of the $13.1M prize pool, with the final four taking seven-figure payouts. Several poker pros ran deep but failed to reach the final table, including Nick Petrangelo (23rd), Stephen Chidwick (17th), and Phil Ivey (11th).

The final table was formed on Day 2, with Kiat Lee leading the pack while Aerts held the third-largest chip stack. As the final table kicked off, players were eliminated rapidly. It took just 1 hour and 15 minutes to come down to the 4-handed play. All the remaining players agreed to an ICM deal, chopping the remaining prize money and leaving only the title to be played for. German poker super star Fedor Holz soon knocked out Austria’s  Mario Mosböck (4th). Despite scoring the elimination, Holz’s run came to an end in 3rd place when he ran his Ah 4h hand into Soyza’s pocket aces.

The heads-up play lasted nearly two hours with the chip lead shifting several times  between the two players. Aerts eventually took the lead before the final hand. Aerts finally called Soyza’s all-in holding Ad-10d against Soyza’s Jc-10c. The board ran out 3c-Qs-7s-3s-7d, and Aerts’ ace-high held up, denying Soyza his third career Triton title. Michael Soyza took home $2,305,000* for his runner-up finish.

The $30k buy-in Bounty event attracted 105 entries, generating a total prize pool of $3,150,000, including a $1,040,000 bounty prize pool. Out of the 105 entrants, only 17 players shared the prize pool and the bounties. Martirosian entered the final table with just 7 big blinds, facing Jamil Wakil’s 49 BBs.

Martirosian held his momentum and scored two eliminations in one hand, sending Paulius Vaitiekunas and Espen Jorstad out in 9th and 8th places, respectively. Martirosian soon ended Ben Tollerene’s tournament run, sending him out in 7th place. He continued eliminating players, knocking out David Benefield (6th), Ren Lin (5th), Adrian Mateos (4th), Jamil Wakil (3rd), and Nikita Kuznetcov (2nd).

The final hand saw Kuznetcov shoving his remaining 9 BBs holding 5c-Ks against Martirosian’s 9h-10h. The board brought two nines, giving Martirosian trips. Nikita Kuznetcov collected $358,000 and $80,000 in bounties for his runner-up finish.
