Masashi Oya has quickly become a prominent figure in the world of poker, earning a name for himself, thanks to his impressive performances in various high-stakes tournaments. With his exceptional strides in the international poker circuit, this Japanese player has displayed strategic skills and the right demeanour at the tables.

Masashi Oya began rising up the ranks after registering a series of strong finishes in major tournaments within a relatively short time. His deep runs made him noticeable in the notable games, while his victories made him a known name for possessing a versatile playing style combined with aggression and calculated caution.

Interestingly, Masashi Oya started playing poker professionally relatively very recently. He began playing live poker events in December 2021 and has witnessed sharp progress ever since.

Recent results

Masashi Oya made headlines last year after recording an exceptional performance at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2022. Here he cashed in multiple events including making a final table finish.  He made it to the final table of the coveted $50,000 Poker Players Championship, which is one of the most challenging tournaments given its interesting mixed-game format. His ability to progress in this event showed his mastery of various poker disciplines, further cementing his reputation as a rising star.

Later, Masashi Oya once again grabbed eyeballs after emerging victorious from a field of 30 entries in the $51,500 buy-in no-limit hold ’em event at the 2024 Super High Roller Bowl Series held at Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino in Cyprus. Here, the Japanese pro earned $535,000 for his top place. 

This May, he was seen grinding at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series held in Montenegro, Budva. Here he recorded a total of three cashes. These included an 11th place finish at TRITON  $ 25,000 + 1,000 Pot Limit Omaha (Event #12) for $ 44,000, a 14th place finish at $ 125,000 + 7,500 No Limit Hold’em – Triton Main Event (Event #9) for $ 320,000 and a 13th place finish at $ 100,000 + 6,000 No Limit Hold’em – 8-Handed (Event #8) for a pay cheque of $ 184,000.

Masashi Oya WSOP

Masashi Oya flaunts one WSOP gold bracelet on his poker resume. This came in 2023 when he won the World Series of Poker Paradise Event #9: $100,000 buy-in Ultra High Roller No-Limit Hold’em. Apart from gold he also bagged $2,940,000 as the top price.

The Japanese player has a total of 13 cashes at the WSOP throughout his career. These have accumulated a wealth of $3,690,741 from the World Series alone.

In his live poker career, Masashi Oya has earned total live earnings of $8,553,48 so far. His best live cash to date has been $2,940,000 which he pocketed at the World Series of Poker – WSOP Paradise held at Paradise Island, Bahamas in 2023. He took down the WSOP PKRGO  $ 100,000 + 3,000 No Limit Hold’em – Ultra High Roller (WSOP Bracelet Event #9) for $ 2,940,000.

He ranks 188th on the All-Time Money List of global players and 1st on Japan All Time Money List according to Hendon Mob.

Apart from his results, Masashi Oya’s dedication and persistence to keep improving his game and polish his talent have earned him a name and respect within the poker community. Given the fact that he has been playing poker professionally for less than three years, his progress is worth lauding. As he continues to go heads-on against some of the best players globally, Masashi Oya is definitely a player to watch, poised for even greater success in the future.
