The 2024 World Series of Poker kicks off With $5k Champions Event

The highly anticipated 2024 World Series of Poker has finally begun! The series will be running from May 28 to July 17, 2024 in Las Vegas. The 55th WSOP is being held at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas.

Tuesday marked the beginning of the series with two events: the $5,000 Champions Reunion No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout (8-Handed) and the traditional $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em tournament.

Event #1, the $5,000 Champions Reunion No-Limit Hold’em Freezout, is a brand-new event with an exciting twist: anyone who eliminates a former WSOP Main Event winner will earn a free ticket into the 2024 WSOP Main Event. 

Event #1: $5,000 Champions Reunion drew 493 players, including 22 former WSOP Main Event champions, for a $2,047,800 prize pool. The big incentive is that if you knock out a former Main Event champ, you win a free entry to the coveted 2024 Main Event! Following 16 intense levels, 99 players remained in contention, led by 2016 Main Event Champion Qui Nguyen with a 663,000 stack.

 Event #2: $500 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em drew a record-breaking 1,189 entries, generating a $499,380 prize pool. Caleb O’Donnell ended Day 1 as chip leader, setting the stage  for the first of 99 live bracelet events at the ongoing series 

Vegas Golden Knights champion Jonathan Marchessault participated in the opening event. He Joined WSOP Main Event Champions, including last year’s winner, Daniel Weinman, and took part in his first competitive poker tournament. Before playing, he received advice and tips from poker legend Daniel Negreanu.

Ty Stewart, SVP & Executive Director of the WSOP, said that WSOP is eyeing to break all previous records by making the 2024 WSOP bigger and better. This year’s WSOP will feature an increased number of tables, with nearly 700 available for use in 2024.

The 2024 WSOP features 99 live bracelet events and another 30 online bracelet events for players in Nevada, New Jersey, and Michigan on the updated WSOP Online Platform. 

Day 2 of 2024 WSOP is already intense with the beginning of two additional tournaments: Event #3: $500 WSOP Kickoff No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout and Event #4: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better (8-Handed). 

The 2024 WSOP Main Event is scheduled to run from July 3 to July 17 and will feature four starting flights, continuing with one flight each day for four days. Late registration will be open through Level 7, at approximately 4:40 pm, on the two Day 2 flights held on July 7 and 8. 

New Poker Events at 2024 WSOP

In addition to the Champions Reunion No-Limit Hold’em Freezeout, several new events are being introduced this year. Among the most exciting are the $5,000 buy-in Seniors High Roller on June 26, the first-ever $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em, and the Pot-Limit Omaha Double Board Bomb Pot tournament beginning on June 15. 

This year’s WSOP will feature the PokerNews $600 Deep Stack Championship on June 25. Daily deep stack players can qualify for the PokerNews event by finishing in the top 10 in a points race for the $200, $250, and $400 buy-in events held from May 28 through June 24.
