Stephen Chidwick’s Early Life and His Passion for Poker

Born on May 10th, 1989, in Deal, England, at an early age, he loved playing challenging and tricky games. In his teenage years, Chidwick planned to be better at his hobby and make a name in it. Before stumbling across poker, his hobby was golf, and he was practicing a lot to be better at it. He got into poker at the age of 15 and never looked back.

In a podcast with Dan Cates, Stephen Chidwick said that he started his poker career by playing online freerolls tournaments under the screen name “stevie444”, where he would win €10. Chidwick created his bankroll by winning freerolls tournaments in PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker. After making a significant bankroll, he moved into playing Sit & Go’s. 

Chidwick was very much bored by dominating in Sit & Go’s, so he switched back to multi-table tournaments. According to reports, Chidwick had won over $3 million from online multi-table tournaments by age 26. 

Stephen Chidwick transitioned to the live tournament scene after achieving significant success in online poker. He made his first live appearance in 2008, when he won the $1k NLH event at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas, earning $88,760 for his spectacular performance. 

The next few years after 2008 were dry for the British player, as he didn’t win any big cash or any live tournaments. In December 2013, he participated in the €5,300 EPT Main Event in Prague, where he finished in 3rd place, earning $517,992. 

2018 was a turning year for Chidwick, as he became the #1 ranked player on the Global Poker Index (GPI). In 2019, Chidwick ended up in 4th place in the £1 million NLH Triton High Roller Series, earning his biggest ever live winnings yet of $5,368,947. That year, Chidwick claimed his first WSOP Gold bracelet at the $25k Pot Limit Omaha, making his biggest WSOP earning of $1,128,685. 

As of June 2024, Stephen Chidwick has over $58 million in live tournament winnings. Making him the number 1 poker player in the UK All-Time Money List and 3rd player in the All-Time Money List.
