Star Entertainment Group has decided to shut down their electronic gaming machines and electronic table games at their Australian casinos. All machines have been offline since Saturday evening due to “system performance issues” linked to the implementation of cashless gaming technology. The machines have remained inactive through Monday.

In an ASX announcement on Monday, Star Entertainment revealed that the issues arose from planned system upgrades intended to prepare for the rollout of cashless gaming, leading to the shutdown of slot machines and electronic gaming machines.

The Star Entertainment Group is the owner and operator of The Star Sydney, The Star Gold Coast, and Treasury Brisbane. The Treasury Brisbane will be closing in the coming months to make way for the brand-new Star Brisbane, which will open on the banks of the Brisbane River.

Star’s slot machines were turned off around 10:00 PM local time on Saturday, July 13. Company officials revealed that they decided to disable electronic gaming to “ensure compliance with relevant regulations and to maintain Star’s commitment to safer gambling procedures.”

Star stated that live dealer table games remain operational, and restaurants and bars are functioning normally, as well as live entertainment. The company is working with its system provider Konami, to solve the issues related to the gaming machines.

However, the issue adds another setback for the company already facing regulatory changes and awaiting to hold a NSW casino license for it’s The Star Sydney. As a result, shares of The Star Entertainment Group have declined, and they are expecting a revenue dip in this fiscal year.
