Sosia Jiang made headlines at the 2024 World Series of Poker Paradise with two impressive final table finishes, raking in over $1.6 million. This report explores her poker career, personal journey, introduction to the game, net worth, and notable live earnings.

Sosia Jiang Early Life and Poker Introduction

Sosia Jiang was born in Inner Mongolia in 1979. At the age of 7, she and her family moved to New Zealand due to the political tension in China. She studied at the Diocesan School for Girls and later went on to earn a degree in Commerce and Asian studies from the Australian National University. She then did a graduate law program at the University of New South Wales and began working in brokerage at Macquarie Bank.

The bank sent Sosia Jiang to Hong Kong to acquire an Asian business. That’s when Jiang’s poker journey started. In 2008, her boss invited Jiang to a home poker game, and Jiang was happy to find a game that allowed her to use her mathematical ability to excel in the game. 

She also finds out that her younger brother Honglin is into poker and spends most of his time playing online poker. She took some guidance from her brother, who suggested Jiang some books and gave her some tips to improve her game.

Sosia Jiang Poker Career Highlights and Earnings

Sosia Jiang scored her first live poker cash in 2012, where she came 6th in the HK$15,000 NLH Asia Pacific Poker Tour for a $14,915 payday. In 2013, she only cashed two poker events in the New Zealand Poker Open and earned over $4.5k. 

Jiang’s next tournament cash came in the 2017 Macau Poker Cup, earning $5,993 for her 15th place finish in the HK$8,000 NLH Baby Dragon Event 11. She soon found her first victory in Macau, as she triumphed in the 2017 PokerStars Championship High Roller for a six-figure score of $498,073. On her way to victory, Jiang faced Nick Petrangelo and Dan Smith to win her first poker title and the PokerStars Trophy.

She then travelled to Monte Carlo in 2018 to compete in the PokerStars European Poker Tour. She made two cash finishes in the festival, including a 16th place finish in the €1,100 NLH Freezeout, earning over $5k from her two cashes. Jiang then competed in the 2018 WPT New Zealand Main Event, where she finished in 3rd place, pocketing $47,858. She followed up that finish with a win in the 2018 Sydney Championship A$20,000 NLH High Roller for $197,536.

Jiang started her 2019 with a 28th-place finish in the PokerStars Players Championship in PCA, adding $105,000 to her earnings. She then made a runner-up finish in the $10,300 NLH PokerStars Caribbean Adventure for a substantial $175,380. That year she also competed in her first World Series of Poker and made it into the money in the $10k WSOP Main Event. In August Jiang participated in the Triton Poker SHRS London, scoring her first Triton cash of $245,345 for her 14th place finish in the Main Event. 

In 2020, Jiang won the $265 NLH Online Hendon Mob Championship for $18,382 and the Hendon Mob Trophy in the Irish Poker Open 2020 Online. It was her biggest cash during the pandemic. She continued cashing in online poker tournaments between 2021 – 2022. Jiang made her live poker return in 2023 in style. She scored a 6th place finish in the Triton Poker SHRS Vietnam $25,000 NLH GG Super Million for a whopping $222,000 payout. She then came 7th in the $200,000 Luxon Invitational in Triton Poker Cyprus, pocketing another six-figure sum of $820,000. Jiang wrapped up 2023 with a cash finish in the WPT World Championship. 

In 2024, she scored her first cash in the Triton Poker Jeju and followed that up with 10th place in the WPT Australia World Championship Warmup for $15,622. Her recent cashes include an 8th place finish in the 2024 WSOP Paradise $500k NLH Triton Million for which she earned a career-high payday of $1,605,000. Jiang also ran deep in the $25,000 Super Main Event and earned $67,300 for her 141st place finish. 

Her last cash of 2024 also came in the 2024 WSOP Paradise, where she made it into the final nine of the $3,500 Closer Turbo Event, finishing 9th to collect $18,100. 

Sosia Jiang’s Personal Life and Where is She Now?

Jiang left her job in brokerage and shifted her career to a teacher. She went back to New Zealand in 2013, where she now works as a teacher, while also playing poker. “Poker is fun, it is exciting but I am not interested in donating money to other poker players. If I’m going to make donations I’d rather give it to positive charitable causes,” Jiang about Poker.

Sosia Jiang’s Net Worth In 2024

From her 46 live tournament cashes, Jiang has earned over $4.6 million putting her first on New Zealand’s all-time money list. She also ranks 6th on women’s all-time money list just behind Maria Ho and Liv Boeree. However, there aren’t any official reports on Jiang’s net worth but it must be more than $5 million dollars.
