The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas has been packed with exciting moments. While the most exciting was the crowning of poker’s new world champion in the record-breaking main event, there was a fierce competition going on for the coveted WSOP Player of the Year title. Although expected, nothing was very clear until the 2024 POY leaderboard received the final update, which confirmed that the deserving winner of the 2024 POY title was Scott Seiver.
Hailing from the USA, Scott Seiver had an incredible WSOP, claiming an impressive three bracelets and posting two final table finishes. With these incredible performances, he made it through and became the WSOP 2024 player of the year, adding yet another accolade to his illustrious career.
His name came up several times during the 2024 WSOP due to his triple success over the summer. He raked in a total of 17 ITM finishes during the prestigious series, including three gold bracelet victories and two final table finishes, pushing his live poker tournament cashes to more than $26.8 million.
Scott Seiver’s Journey to Winning WSOP Player of the Year
Seiver first won the WSOP 2024 Event #10: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship (8-Handed) from where he took home $426,744. Just two weeks later, he then followed that up with a victory for $141,374 in Event #40: $1,500 Razz $1,500 buy-in. He added a third bracelet two weeks later when he took down Event #72: $10,000 No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw Championship (7-Handed) for $411,041.
He also managed two final table finishes before the conclusion of the WSOP, finishing 3rd for $182,214 in WSOP Online Event #24: WSOP Online Championship Event and taking 6th spot for $131,719 in Event #96: $25,000 High Roller H.O.R.S.E. He earned an impressive $1,449,736 from the series and became just the seventh player to have won three WSOP bracelets in a single series.
New Rules for WSOP Player of the Year Points System
The WSOP introduced new rules for Player of the Year scoring this year. Players had to score a minimum of 5 results to qualify. They were credited with points from a maximum of their top ten finishes, and only the single best WSOP Online finish was considered for the coveted POY race. So, instead of considering every finish, only a player’s best performance was part of the POY system.
Previously, WSOP Europe finishes were also considered for the points but this year only results from WSOP Las Vegas and WSOP Online were taken into account, excluding WSOP Europe results.
Seiver’s powerful performances gave him a lead of over 600 points against his closest POY competitor, Michael Rocco. Although several players had a chance to overtake Seiver with a win in the final few online events, none of them succeeded. Seiver ended his campaign, raking in 4,403.85 points, ahead of Michael Rocco ( 3,803.67 points), who moved into second place on the leaderboard after winning his first bracelet in Event #94: $10k No-Limit Hold’em Championship in the finale week.
What Seiver Won As WSOP Player Of The Year Winner
Seiver’s WSOP title victory earned him a $10,000 buy-in seat into the 2025 WSOP Main Event and a beautiful trophy. He will also be honored with a banner in the WSOP’s rafters that will be on display in perpetuity during future WSOP events. That is not all, his three bracelet wins bring his total to seven and make him a strong contender for the Poker Hall of Fame induction when he reaches age 40 next year. So, he is likely to be the next Hall of Famer after Finland’s Patrik Antonius, who was inducted this year.
