The World Poker Tour World Championship (WPTWC) is officially in the books, with Scott Stewart winning the title for a career-best $2,563,900. While the 36-year-old poker pro Stewart from the USA stole the show as the WPT World champion for 2024, several amazing stories unfolded during the prestigious series. One of them was that of Richard Lord, a professional magician and a poker player from Las Vegas, who made headlines for winning the $240k luxury sports car at the WPTWC.
Lord is a recreational player who started playing poker about 8 years ago. He is predominantly an online player. Having won his Golden Passport, he arrived at Wynn Las Vegas to compete in the ClubWPT Gold $5M Invitational Freeroll for his shot at the grand $1 million winner’s prize. While Lord put up a strong fight, the magician’s tricks could not get him past the money bubble. He exited the historic freeroll before reaching the payout stages.
While Lord could not make his impact in the freeroll event, his luck took a magical turn when he won the $240K 2025 McLaren GTS sports car. This coveted golden car was offered as a part of a special giveaway alongside the ClubWPT Gold’s Freeroll at the World Poker Tour World Championship.
It was like a real-life magic moment for Richard Lord. His journey to this magical moment started on December 11 when he was roaming the Wynn’s corridors to confirm his spot in the tournament. This was when Lord came across the ClubWPT Gold Booth with its prize drum. Out of curiosity, he drew one of the three “Jackpot” envelopes, earning a shot at winning a 2025 McLaren GTS. Not sure of what he had won, he started celebrating but soon came the big news: he and the two others had drawn the “JACKPOT” envelopes and one of them would win the shiny McLaren GTS.
On Sunday, when the WPT World Championship and Ladies Championship were unfolding, play was paused to announce the stunning custom 2025 McLaren GTS winner. Lord and the two other ‘JACKPOT’ winners took their place on the big stage. Each of them had to pick one envelope for a chance to take home the coveted golden luxury car. Moments later, Lord jumped with joy as he had won the grand prize – McLaren GTS!
For Lord, this was like a real-life magic moment and he was visibly on cloud nine after winning the $240k 2025 McLaren GTS luxury sports car.
