Matthew Wantman made an incredible comeback in the heads-up play with less than three big blinds to take down the PGT PLO Series II Event #3: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha for a second PGT trophy and a first-place prize money of $178,250.

Event no. 3, with a $5,100 buy-in, saw an impressive 155 entrants, generating a total prize pool of $775,000. The money bubble broke with 23 players remaining, with the top 2 finishers collecting a six-figure sum. Below is the recap of the PGT PLO Event 3 final table.

The 2024 PGT PLO Series II Event #3 Final Table Recap

As the field whittled down to 9, Wantman was in the table short, but he found double-ups to chip up to lead the final 7 on the tournament’s last day. Eelis Parssinen was the first player to fall at the final table. He held a middling stack but lost most of it to Jonas Kronwitter, leaving himself with just two big blinds. Parssinen ended his tournament run in 7th place for $31,000. Eran Carmi soon followed Parssinen to the rail for a 6th-place finish, earning $38,750.

Matthew Wantman extended his chip lead by knocking out Michael Duek in 5th place. Duek ran his Ad-9s-9c-3c against Wantman’s Kc-Js-10s-9h. The flop ran out 9d-8s-4d, but the 10c on the turn and the river 10h gave Wantman a higher full house. Duek banked $46,500 for his impressive run.

Joe Serock, fresh off from his 8th place finish at the 2024 WSOP Main Event, bowed out in 4th place to bank $58,125. It was Sherlock’s third final table finish this year, pushing his earnings to nearly $5.9 million. Kronwitter scored his second elimination by sending Zachary Schwarts to the rail in 3rd place ($77,500).

The Heads-up Play and Final Hand

Despite leading the final 7, Matthew Wantman headed into the heads-up play with 5,600,000 compared to Kronwitter’s 13,775,000 stack.

Kronwitter soon left Wantman with less than three big blinds. However, Wantman doubled up, snatching the chip lead. The final hand saw Wantman open-raise with Ac-7s-6d-3s, and Kronwitter called from the big blind with Kh-10h-7d-5d

The flop brought Ad-Jc-9c, and Kronwitter shoved his remaining stack. Kronwitter flopped a double gutshot straight draw and needed an 8 or Q to complete a straight. The turn 2h and the river 5c, completed the board.

Wantman’s ace pair held up to secure his second PGT Trophy and the prize money of $112,375. Kronwitter had to settle for his fifth six-figure score of $112,375 for his runner-up finish.
