Peter Fanthome Wins Deepstack, Marking India’s Third Title at 2024 WPT Cambodia

Following their remarkable success at the WSOP 2024, Team India is making waves at the ongoing 2024 WPT Cambodia — Passport to the World Championship. The team has already notched up more than 60 cashes at the series, displaying its growing prominence at the global stage.  

Karan Sitlani earned India its first title victory in Event #10: $800 8 Max Survivor 1.5K Bounty at the WPT Cambodia, securing $40,330 after an ICM deal with compatriot Amit Kaushik (second for $40,960).  The second title for the country was claimed by Somashekar Kurkhepally Nahadeva who shipped Event #7: $350 Bounty and banked $8,136, following a heads-up deal with Gagandeep Singh Malik ($7,500).

Newcomer Peter Fanthome Wins India Its Third Title at the WPT Cambodia 2024

The most recent victory for India came in the WPT Cambodia 2024 Event 23: Deepstack, a $300 buy-in event that ran on July 18 and drew 179 entries for a $ 46,012 prizepool. In the end, India’s Peter Hubert Fanthome emerged victorious, turning his $ 300 buy-in into a five figure $11,922 on his WPT Cambodia debut.

 His journey to victory was nothing short of remarkable as he was down to just 5 bb just before bubble time. However, a string of hands kept him alive to reach the final table and eventually outlast several well-known pros on the final table to win his first international title. He eventually outlasted his fellow country man Akshat Verma, who walked away with $7,995 for his runner- up finish in the tournament.

The final hand of this tournament saw Fanthome’s As Jh dominating Kh 7s of Verma on a dry board.

An impressive three Indians final-tabled this event, including Avinash Tauro who exited in fourth place, earning $2,869 for his deep run in the tournament. Here is a quick look at the final table payouts.

China’s Sha Chengchun Takes Down WPT Championship For $175,542

Meanwhile, the main event of the series has concluded with China’s Sha Chengchun emerging as the champion. He overcame a large field of 913 entries and compatriot Xiaosheng Zheng (runner-up for $117,030 and a seat to the WPT World Prime Championship worth $1,100.) in the heads, winning $175,542 and a package valued at $12,230 to the WPT World Championship to be held in Las Vegas.

 India’s Gagandeep Malik headlined Team India’s scorecard in this event, finishing 12th for $13,960. Vishal Ojha (16th for $9,200), Nikesh Chawla (19th for $7,600), Amit Kaushik (28th for $5,380), Dhaval Mudgal (34th for $4,620), Pradeep Nudurumati (39th for $4,620), Siddharth Karia (43rd for $4,010), Somashekar Nahadeva (59th for $3,140), Somasekhar Sanampuri (76th for $2,590), Raju Jaruplavath (82nd for $2,410), Jatin Sablani (94th for $2,230), Sumit Sapra (103rd for $2,130), Faiz Alam (106th for $2,130), and Bagaria Vardhan (113th for $2,130) were the other Indians to cash the main event.
