The world of poker continues to thrive with talented and passionate poker enthusiasts. These poker players have been gradually making it big in the world of poker, and proving themselves as the rising stars and the future of the global poker stage Raminder Singh

One such player with an impressive poker report card is Raminder Singh or ‘Raminator.’ The Indian pro settled in the USA is nothing short of an inspiration to the countless poker enthusiasts not just in the country, but globally.

Who is Raminder Singh?

Raminder Singh was born in New Delhi, India. His father was an auto-rickshaw driver, while his mother was a homemaker who raised four children including Raminder. During an interview, Raminder said that his success is largely credited to his parents’ values and emphasis on education. His humble parents ensured all their four kids received the best possible education despite financial challenges.

Singh, who takes pride in belonging to the Sikh community, relocated to the US in the mid 90s. Here he first pursued a career and later did his MBA. Today, Raminder or Raminator is a recognized name in the USA poker circuit. Apart from playing poker, Raminder also runs his own medium-sized IT consulting firm.

He believes in balancing his passion for poker with work and family. Husband to wife Delia, and father to their two kids, daughter Sonya (14) and son Shawn (11), Raminder says, “Family and friends are the number one priority. Hence, poker is like 5th or 6th.” He currently resides in the Delray Beach area in Florida, United States.

Introduction to poker

Raminder’s introduction to the game was a rather unusual one. His beginning with poker was unexpected and inspiring. Back in 2005, Singh was working for another corporate firm, when his then-boss casually invited him to play a game of poker. He walked in to play the game not even knowing the spelling of poker, and was taught the game’s basics on a napkin, and the rest is just history.
Sharing his poker journey he says, “By 2005, I didn’t even know how to spell poker to tell you the truth. I was into corporate jobs. And it’s a grind to grow in your career and climb the corporate ladder. I happen to have a great boss during that time at one of my corporate jobs. His name is Jack Sumner. He is a pretty good poker player himself. One evening, I was coming back from the gym, and I got a call from him. He was like, ‘I am at a bar here, playing poker with some colleagues. Why don’t you join in?’ And I was like, ‘But I don’t know how to even play poker.’ And he was like, ‘No, come over. I’ll walk you through the rules.’ So I went over there. He walks me through the basic rules on the back of a paper napkin. What is a pair, Ace high, full house? I ended up playing that tournament, and that’s how I got hooked on poker.”

Raminder Singh Poker stats

Although Raminder Singh is predominantly a recreational player in Florida, his recorded results date back to 2006, thus indicating his activeness in the circuit for close to two decades. With over 90+ titles to his name, Singh flaunts $3,088,604 in total live tournament earnings.

This includes $347,219 coming from 45 WSOP cashes alone. Although he is yet to claim his first WSOP gold bracelet, Singh has two WSOP rings to his name. He currently ranks 766th on the All-Time Money list and 160th on the Global Poker Index rankings.

Recent triumphs

Raminder Singh kick-started his 2024 season with a bang and has not stopped ever since. His title-claiming streak began with the 48-year-old taking down the No-Limit Hold’em event at Palm Beach $100,000 Guaranteed on January 4, 2024.

This was followed by Raminder’s headline-making victory at No Limit Hold’em – LHPO Championship (Event #34) of the 2024 Lucky Hearts Poker Open in Hollywood on January 19th. With this win, he also grabbed his career-best score of $486,353.

On February 7th, 2024, he grabbed the second WSOP ring of his career after shipping the $ 250 No Limit Hold’em – 30k Starting Stack (Ring Event #10) at the World Series of Poker Circuit – WSOPC Pompano Beach. Apart from the prestigious ring he also took home a hefty $21,580 as the top prize.

He later went on to grab two more titles in March. On March 23 he took down the No-Limit Hold’em event at 2024 St. Augustine Recurring Tournaments for $843, followed by the  No Limit Hold’em – Deepstack event at 2024 Seminole Coconut Creek Recurring Tournaments in Coconut Creek for $3,322 on March 27, 2024.

Singh kicked off his April by claiming the top spot at the No Limit Hold’em – Deep Stack – 6-Max (Event #22) at World Poker Tour – WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in Hollywood. He pocketed $18,400 for his top-place finish here. Later on April 27, 2024, Raminder claimed victory once again at No Limit Hold’em – Moneymaker Mega Stack (Event #11) at Moneymaker Poker Tour – Daytona Beach for a handsome $2,077.

Apart from the six titles in four months of 2024, Raminder has also recorded several final table finishes in the recount months.

Team Singh

Interestingly, Singh already has a rail and a group of supporters from his community who respect him and stand by him in his poker endeavors. He is almost every time seen playing wearing a ‘Team Singh’ shirt, featuring a fierce lion logo, which he reveals was designed by his nephews Harry and Jason.

Team Singh was born predominantly because of my nephews who play poker as well. Harry, Jason, and Sandy, and along with them, all their friends their age, they became my nephews too, so I’m a universal uncle now. There are many more who reach out to me for advice on poker and I love to help them. So, it just became Team Singh and a brand,” he says.

Having so many impressive results to his name, ironically, Singh has not taken up the game of poker as a full-time professional. The amount of success Raminder has achieved over the years, especially his consistent form in recent months, depicts that he is one of the strongest and most talented players to look forward to in 2024. It will be interesting to see if his winning streak continues in the WSOP as well and if he clinches gold at the 2024 WSOP.
