This week has been packed with high-octane live action as we saw the conclusion of several main events across the world. Here is a look at recent poker winners of the Korea Poker Cup Main Event, WSOPC Commerce Main Event, and MSPT East Chicago Main Event.
Joris Michl Wins KPC Main Event 2024
Netherland’s Joris Michl triumphed in the Korea Poker Cup Main Event, taking home the KPC Main Event trophy, and his career biggest live cash of KRW 190,000,000 (~$136,410). Michl has been competing in the Asian poker scene since 2019 and has won 8 Asian poker titles, but this victory was his first major victory that brought his career earnings over $300k.
The KRW 1,600,000 (~$1,145) buy-in attracted 530 players, generating a total prize pool of KRW 1,000,000,000 (~$718,110). Out of 530 players, 87 players earned a piece from the massive prize pool. 8 players made it to the final day, and after almost six hours of play, Joris Michl emerged victorious.
Taiwan’s Cheng Lo finished in the top 3, earning KRW 83,900,000 (~$60,240). While his fellow countrymen Wei Chen Lin faced Michl in the heads-up, with a slight chip disadvantage.
However, Lin soon gained momentum in the heads-up, gaining a 3:1 chip advantage over Michl. Michl was even on the brink of elimination but made an incredible comeback to overtake Lin.
On the final hand, Lin went all in holding a jack-ten in the hope of catching an ace on the river, while Michl already made his two pairs of queen-king. The ace didn’t come until the river, locking up the victory for Michl. Lin banked KRW 117,500,000 (~$84,360) as the runner-up.

Tim Thorp Triumphs in Mid-States Poker Tour East Chicago Main Event
Tim Thorp overcame a field of 524 players to win MSPT East Chicago Main Event for a career-high payday of $108,184. Thorp entered the final table as one of the shortest stacks but played top-notch poker to chip up and head to the final duel with a chip advantage. Thorp defeated MSPT Hall of Famer Andrew Keeney in the heads-up securing the victory.
The $1,100 buy-in Main Event saw a total of 524 entrants, building up a total prize pool of $508,280, which was distributed among the top 56 players. Thorp completely dominated the final table, with an elimination and a double-up. Thorp kicked up the heads-up eliminating Asa Snyder in 3rd.
The heads-up was quick and short. On the final hand, Moon jammed his remaining stack with king-queen, and Thorp called with king-ten. The flop brought a Ten, and Thorp kept that lead utill the river, sealing the victory. Moon earned $66,471 for his runner-up finish.

Matthew Salsberg’s Hollywood Victory in WSOP Circuit Commerce Main Event
Matthew Salsberg, a TV producer and screenwriter, took down the 2024 World Series of Poker Circuit Commerce Main Event, for his career second-highest live cash of $286,134. For his victory, he earned his career first gold ring, pushing his live earnings over $5.8 million.
Salsberg isn’t a new name to the poker world, as a decade ago he won the 2012 World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris for a staggering $478,415 payday.
The $1,700 WSOPC Commerce Main Event saw a massive field of 1,209 entrants, creating a massive $1,831,635 prize pool. As the field whittled down, 161 players took share from the prize pool.
Salsberg entered the final table with a middling stack and scored a double up in the three-handed play. Salsberg eliminated Michael Liang in 3rd for $134,958 and entered the heads-up with a three-to-one chip lead. Salberg quickly locked up the victory for his first circuit ring,
On the final hand, Anthony Marquez shoved with king-queen, and Salberg called with his ace-king, The board ran in favour of Salsberg, eliminating Marquez in second place, bagging $190,774.
