The largest World Poker Tour Prime Championship Event has concluded with Singapore’s Jereld Sam reigning victorious over the record-breaking 1,666 entry field. The final day of the WPT Prime Taiwan 2024 season played out with seven side events, with the highlight of the day being the final round of the prestigious Championship Event. Following over ten hours of play, Sam rose to victory, earning him a career best cash of TWD 8,065,000 (~USD 250,700), along with the highly coveted WPT trophy. In addition, he also received the $10,400 seat into the season-ending WPT World Championship to be held at Wynn Las Vegas.
2024 World Poker Tour Prime Championship Event Quick Recap
Running from August 15 to 19, the TWD 35,000 (~USD 1,080) buy-in event comfortably crushed itsTWD 32,276,500 (~USD 1,000,000), generating a whopping TWD 51,054,436 (~USD 1,611,293) in prize pool, which was eventually shared by the top 208 finishers who returned to earn a spot into the final day.
The final day of the event saw only 13 players return to the felts, with Jereld Sam in the lead. It took over three and a half hours of play to reach the final table with Japan’s Yuya Arito in the lead, and Sam right behind him. The first player to fall was New Zealand’s Paul Hong who shoved with his last 12 bigs with pocket nines and ran into Arito’s pocket aces to exit in ninth place. He was followed by local runner Wei Chun Cheng who ran his pocket nines and ran into Sam’s pocket queens to hit the rail in eighth place.
Later, Tomoyuki Yoshimiya’s ace-jack lost to Yuya Arito’s pocket queens, ending Yoshimiya’s run in seventh place. A few hands later, Junya Yamaguchi exited after his pocket jacks lost to Ka Shun Tsang’s pocket kings. Yuya Arito soon followed with his ace-jack losing to the ace-king of Kosei Oguri.
Later, the eventual champion Jereld Sam delivered the next two eliminations – Tsang and Jun Li in third and fourth place respectively. The heads-up began with Oguri holding 40,000,000 (67 bb) over Sam’s 26,600,000 (44 bb). Oguri continued to extend his lead, leaving Sam down to 11 big blinds at one point. However, Sam managed to make a strong comeback and took the lead before the final hand. Finally, he clinched the victory with his Kc Jc against Oguri’s Qc Jd on 2c 3d 3s 4d 5s board.

Justin Chu Ships WPT Prime Taiwan High Roller for TWD 3,219,400 (~USD 100,640)
The other big highlight of the WPT Prime 2024 was Event #44: WPT Prime Taiwan High Roller, which ran from August 18 to 19 and drew 118 entries to surpass its TWD 5,000,000 guarantee and build a massive TWD 12,590,600 (~USD 393,585). The top 17 players shared the prize pool, with the lion’s share eventually going to the winner Chijen Chu from Taiwan who eventually defeated South Korea’s Seung Hun Ko in the heads-up, claiming TWD 3,219,400. The final hand of the event saw Chu holding Ace-Queen against Ko’s Ace-three. The ace-queen remained the best hand, sealing victory for Chu.
