The annual Irish Poker Open 2025 has officially concluded. The 45th edition of the Irish Open crowned its newest Main Event champion, Simon Wilson, who outlasted a staggering 4,562 entries to claim the prestigious title. This year’s festival also introduced a brand-new event — the €10K Super High Roller — which saw Robbie Toan emerge as its inaugural champion.
Young Gun Simon Wilson Ships the Irish Poker Open 2025 Main Event
Wilson, a rising Irish poker player, kept the trophy on home soil after defeating an elite field. Having kickstarted his live poker journey in 2022, Wilson has been a regular fixture on the European poker circuit.
His career reached new heights with this Main Event victory, which earned him a career-best €600,000 and the iconic Irish Open trophy. With this win, Wilson’s lifetime earnings surpassed $1 million, establishing him as one of Ireland’s most promising up-and-comers.
The 45th annual Irish Poker Open Main Event broke records with 4,562 entries across four starting flights. The massive turnout nearly doubled the €2,500,000 guarantee, generating a total prize pool of €4,447,950. The top 671 finishers made the money, with each of the final six players pocketing a six-figure payout.
Lithuania’s Ignotas Kirsis kicked off his Hendon Mob profile in style, securing a podium finish and banking €225,000. In the final heads-up battle, Wilson faced off against Umberto Ruggeri, who recently claimed the Merit Poker Western Series $3,300 NLH Main Event for $377,500.
Ruggeri initially held the chip lead, leveraging his final table experience. However, Wilson remained resilient and eventually reversed the momentum. On the final hand, Ruggeri, down to just two big blinds, called all-in with ace-ten. Wilson revealed six-five of diamonds, which managed to hold up against the superior hand, sealing the victory.
Ruggeri took home €316,000, while Simon Wilson captured the coveted Main Event trophy.
