Harrison Genson Tops 619-Entry Field to Win MSPT Season 16 Ameristar East Chicago Main Event

Hosted for the first time at the iconic Ameristar East Chicago, MSPT Season 16 that featured an impressive line up of 13-trophy events concluded on May 26, crowning Harrison Genson as the main event champion. The American player outlasted a field of 619 entries (across four starting flights) to claim his first-ever trophy and a hefty $105,000.

The victory marked Harrison Genson’s largest live poker cash and second MSPT cash, following his 10th-place finish for $ 21,052 in the MSPT 100 Grand Stack Main Event earlier this year. The total live earnings for the Illinois resident are now above $187,000.

Featuring a $1,110 buy-in and $300K guaranteed, the MSPT Season 16 $1,110 Main Even at Ameristar East Chicago received an overwhelming response, comfortably crushing its guarantee and $598,830 prize pool, which was paid out to the top 71 finishers taking home least $2,209.

Day 2 of the main event saw a total of 71 players return to action. The day’s first elimination came in Anastas Mukoski, who felll in 71st place for $2,209. He was followed by MSPT Hall of Famer Josh Reichard (70th), D.J. Buckley (66th), and defending champion Tim Thorp (64th) – all cashing $2,209 for their efforts. Among other notables to cash were Anthony Scarborough(49th- $2,325), MSPT Hall of Famer Rob WazWaz (44th – $2,499), Andrew Keeney (33rd – $2,790), MSPT champ Jeff Copeland (24th – $4,243), and fellow champ Matt Porter (10th – $8,719) all exiting in quick succession to set the stage for the final table.

The final table kicked off following the elimination of Matt Porter in 10th place ($8,714). Daniel Hughes started off with the massive chip lead, while Harrison Genson held the fourth largest stack at the final table.

Brad Sailor (9th) and Eric Phillips (8th) became the first two casualties, falling in the first half hour of play. The eventual champ Harrison Genson scored his first elimination by knocking out Dejan Petrovic in 7th place. He continued his momentum, busting former MSPT Sycuan champion Jason Mendoza and Garry Gurevich in 6th and 5th place, respectively.

Harrison Genson continued on his elimination spree and eliminated Daniel Hughes in what turned out to be the last hand of this main event.

Hughes shoved his 835k stack from the big blind with A♦4♠  following a raise of 400k from Genson who held 7♣6♦. Genson called and the board brought K♠6♥5♦Q♥4♥, giving Genson a pair of sixes to win the pot. Hughes was eliminated in 4th place, earning him a $40,689 payday.

Following the elimination of Hughes in 4th place, the final three players agreed to chop, with Genson taking the top prize of $105,000 and the coveted trophy. David Hoffman and Brett Reichard took home equal prize money  worth $73,342 for their 2nd and 3rd-place finishes, respectively.
