From Streamer To DPT HR Champion: The Rise of Harshdev Jhirmiria in Indian Poker

India has a flourishing poker market with so many new and emerging talents who are redefining the poker scene in India and making a name for themselves with their sheer talent and passion for the sport. As the number of these new poker players increases, the competitive landscape within the country continues to grow, thus leveraging the country’s representation on the global stage. 

One such young and emerging poker talent is Harshdev Jhirmiria. The player made headlines recently after taking down one of the biggest events at Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) in May 2024 – the Highroller! Besides the fact that he won the most expensive tourney on the schedule, what made his victory sweeter and his name noticed is the fact that he beat some of the most popular and seasoned stalwarts in the Indian poker scene on his way to clinching the title. 

Initial poker Journey

Harshdev Jhirmiria is a 23-year-old poker player from Mumbai. He initially started off as a poker streamer and got recognition for his streams in no time. He then started playing on bigger poker sites online. Eventually, he started playing live as well and has been achieving great results. 

Harshdev Jhirmiria’s Recent Exploits 

Harshdev Jhirmiria has delivered some amazing performance both on live and online felts. Some of his recent online exploits include winning PokerBaazi’s 1000X#20 (6-MAX) Tuesday Prime 30L GTD for ₹4,36,475 and posting numerous deep finishes across prestigious online tournaments.

Harshdev Jhirmiria first caught everyone’s attention after he clinched his first live poker title in the Asian circuit at Poker Dream 9 held in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur in April 2024. Here he took down the RM 1,800 + 300 + 900 No Limit Hold’em – Mystery Bounty event earning himself his first-ever live poker title and RM 286,000 in top prize money. 

Later, in May he again made heads turn by shipping the DPT May 2024 Highroller. The 23-year-old successfully beat Natural8 India Ambassador Kunal Patni, Nikesh Chawla, and female pro Kanchan Sharma on the final table, before ultimately defeating the 2019 DPT July Edition Main Event champion Rishabh Vekaria in a dramatic heads-up. Notably, the final table also included other big names like Myron Periera, Ashish Ahuja and Dhaval Mudgal. 

He clinched the prestigious DPT Highroller title like a true champion and walked away with a paycheque of a life-changing ₹34.30 Lakh.

Harshdev Jhirmiria Stats 

Talking of Harshdev Jihirmiria’s online poker exploits, the Mumbai-based player has 42 online poker titles, and countless cashes, clocking in his total online poker earnings to ₹82.29 Lakh. His biggest online poker cash so far has been ₹4,47,160, which he won by taking down the IOPC #76 Saturday Prime (35 Lacs GTD) event on Spartan Poker in January 2023. Notably he has noteworthy titles such as IOPC, ITM and NPS to his name. 

As far as his live poker stats are concerned, Harshdev Jihirmiria started playing live poker in 2023. He started of with a final table finish at the 50,000 No Limit Hold’em – 50K Freezeout (Event #2) at the World Poker Tour Prime (WPT Prime) India in April 2023. He cashed $1,932 for his 9th place finish here. This was followed by the Poker Dream 9 Mystery Bounty win in Malaysia this year in April.

He also recorded a final table finish at RM 910 + 150 + 440 No Limit Hold’em – Mystery Bounty Turbo event at the same Poker Dream 9 Mystery Bounty series in Malaysia. This time he finished 4th and cashed $2,783 for his efforts. 

After a cash at the 2024 Vietnam Poker League – VPL Summer Series Hanoi at the beginning of May, he made headlines by the end of the month for his DPT Highroller win. Apart from the Highroller, he also made it to the final table of the INR 12,500 + 2,500 + 10,000 No Limit Hold’em – Bounty (Event #12) at DPT May 2024. However, he succumbed to the fourth place for $3,360.

Harshdev Jhirmiria has earned $58,072 in live poker earnings so far, with the best being ₹34.30 Lakh from his DPT May 2024 Highroller win. He ranks 176th on India’s All-Time Money list according to Hendon Mob.

Harshdev Jhirmiria’s results and recent form show that he is a rising star in the Indian poker scene whose excellent talent has helped him gain widespread recognition. As this young player continues to rise through the ranks, he signifies the growing skill and competitive spirit within the Indian poker community. Thus, Harshdev Jhirmiria is definitely a player to watch out for in 2024!
