From Bathinda to WSOP Glory: Tarun Goyal Wins First Bracelet at 2024 WSOP Online!

Indian poker pros are making waves in both live and online poker across the globe. Currently in the spotlight is Tarun Goyal, a former Adda52 Team pro and DPT champion, who raked up an impressive five cashes at this year’s WSOP with his biggest score coming in the main event –  347th finish for $45,000. Just a couple of days ago, Goyal made history by winning the 2024 WSOP Online Event #4: $840 Bounty Pot Limit Omaha on Natural8 India. He outplayed a field of 881 tough opponents, taking home a massive N8D 109,561.83 (INR 1.09 Crores), which included N8D 64,582.82 in bounties.

The Bounty Pot Limit Omaha event, with its $840 buy-in, collected a prize pool of N8D 704,800, which was finally shared by the top 106 finishers. Goyal played some top-notch poker, starting the final day  fifth place in chips among the final 12 players.

His skillful play propelled him to the heads-up battle against non other than the GGPoker Ambassador Ren ‘Tony Lin’ Lin, who could not go all the way and ultimately finished second, bagging an impressive N8D 55,653.58, including N8D 10,675 in bounties. This marks second major final table score for Lin this month. Lin, who currently leads the GPI Asia rankings, had finished in 3rd place  for a hefty $158,000 in Event #2: $25,750 7-Max at Super High Roller Bowl Series Cyprus a few days back.

Final Hand – A Thriller

The final hand of this event was a thriller. Lin called Goyal’s 3x raise, and the flop came 4d 3c 9d. Both players checked. The turn brought the 10c, and Goyal bet. Lin shoved all-in with 5.19 million chips, holding 10d 4c 2d 2c, while Goyal called with Qs Qc Jd 10s. Lin had two pairs and a flush draw. He needed one more diamond to complete his flush but the Kh landed on the river, giving Goyal a straight and his maiden WSOP bracelet.

How This Victory Transforms Tarun Goyal’s Poker Career

This monumental win not only secured Goyal his first WSOP bracelet but also brought India’s total WSOP bracelet tally to an impressive 12. It marks Goyal’s biggest WSOP score, surpassing his previous best score of $129,337, earned for a fifth-place finish in the 2021 WSOP Online Event #23: Deepstack Championship. With this victory, Goyal’s lifetime WSOP earnings have soared to $356,775 from 35 cashes.

Goyal has been on fire, accumulating over INR 2.22 Crores in online winnings this week alone. Before this historic win, he claimed a second-place finish worth INR 1.04 Crores in the Bounty Hunters HR Main Event on Natural8 India. The latest win boosted his total online earnings to a staggering INR 3.06 Crores.

As for the 2024 WSOP Online series, it kicked off on August 18 and runs until September 30, featuring 33 bracelet events and a massive $61 million in guaranteed prize pools. The mega series is highlighted by the $25 million guaranteed Main Event, which will play out its Day 2 on September 23, 2024.
