The 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) at Casino Barcelona is now in its final phase, with just two days away from its culmination. More than a dozen of winners have already been crowned, including Boris Angelov, Steve O’Dwyer, Kayhan Mokri who went back-to-back to win the Super High Roller title, Jean-Noel Thorel, and Leonard Maue who emerged as the winner of  €50K Super High Roller. One of yesterday’s tournaments was Event #40: €10,200 Pot-Limit Omaha, which drew 106 entries for a €1,028,200 prize pool and eventually found its champion in Gergo Nagy from Hungary.

 2024 EPT Barcelona Event #40: €10,200 Pot-Limit Omaha Recap

This was a two-day event where 15 players returned the final day with UK’s Patrick Kennedy in the lead. Patrick eventually made it to the final heads-up where he clashed against Hungarian player Gergo Nagy. Gergo entered the final day with the second-smallest stack, and was the smallest stack at the final table holding just four blinds. However, that didn’t stop him from emerging as the winner as he fought back, besting Kennedy heads-up to clinch his first EPT title and a hefty prize of €268,600.

All 15 players who returned for the final day were already in the money. Theo Jorgensen was the first player to finish in the money after getting it in against Triple Crown winner Mike Watson’s two pair and failing to improve. He was followed by Alexander Petersen, Yuriy Boyko and Tor Ivarsson in a flurry of quick early eliminations.

The next player to fall was Omaha crusher Ka Kwan Lau who entered the day with the second-largest stack. Lau bowed out in eleventh place in a four-bet pot against the start of the day chip leader Kennedy. Samuel Albeck then fell in tenth place soon, setting up the nine-handed final table.

Christopher Philippou became the first final table casualty after losing in a three-way pot against Patrick Kennedy and Youness Barakat. Jorryt van Hoof exited in 8th place after his Jd 9c 7h 6h lost against the Kh Kh Qd 10s of Mark Buckley who hit flush on the turn.

Despite scoring the elimination, Buckley was the next player to fall as his As Ah 9h 4s lost against Kennedy’s Ac Kd 8d 7h on a Ks 10c 9s 9d Jc board. The next knockout was scored by Nagy whose 10c 9c 5d 2d won against the Jc Jd 8c 7d of Mike Watson on a Qd 6c 7h 8d board. The next two players to fall were Slade Fisher (5th – €73,250) and Youness Barakat (4th – €95,200).

Barakat was busted by Kennedy who held Js 10s 5h 4h and won it with just a pair of fours against Ah Jd 7h 6h of Barakat. Finally, it came down to heads-up after Kennedy when eliminated Henri Puustinen in 3rd place (€123,750). Holding Qh Jh 9c 4d against the Kd Qs Qd 6c of Puustinen, Kennedy flopped a flush and held from there, ending Puustinen’s run.

Kennedy entered heads-up with a 2:1 chip lead over Nagy. Kennedy started off strong and was able to extend his lead further. However, the momentum shifted when Nagy turned a straight against Kennedy’s flopped set of fives, securing a big pot. From there, Nagy never looked back, winning several pots without showdown and finally winning the title in a preflop race to claim €268,600 and his first EPT title. On the final hand, Kennedy held Kh Qd Js 6c and Nagy had Qs 7s 6d 5d. The board ran out Kc 9s 4s 9d 5s to give Nagy the queen high-flush and the title.
