DPT Xpress: Brief Recap & History

The Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) Xpress was inaugurated in September 2018 at the picturesque Deltin Denzong in Gangtok, Sikkim. As the first-of-its-kind series, the inaugural edition was well-received, with Bhola Sharma triumphing over 67 entries in the 15K Main Event to win INR 3.40 Lakhs.

The second edition took place in March 2019 and witnessed a slight dip in turnouts, with the 15K Main Event registering only 63 entries. Ankit Jajodia won the Main Event, taking home INR 3.25 Lakhs.

The lackluster attendance in the second edition prompted the organizers to relocate the series to Goa. The third edition, held in June 2019 at the Deltin JAQK, saw impressive results. The 15K Main Event registered its largest-ever field of 205 entries and crowned a champion in none other than the MTT specialist Anant Purohit, who walked away with hefty INR 7.40 Lakhs and his first-ever DPT title.

The fourth edition, held in February 2020, also witnessed healthy participation. Although the 15K Main Event did not surpass the previous turnout record, it still managed to register a commendable 192 entries. Deepak Raina emerged victorious, claiming his second DPT and a prize of INR 7 Lakhs.

The previous edition was held in March 2021. The Main Event of this edition broke all previous records, drawing in a record 421 entries and more than doubling the 205-entry benchmark set at the DPTX Main Event in June 2019. Ramesh Rao Thotapalli emerged as the Main Event winner and took home over INR 12 Lakh. Other notable winners were Gautham Raju (INR 4,30,000 in the 10K Deepstack Turbo), Sandeep Ramesh (INR 2,75,000 in the 10K Bounty), and Shrey Baj (INR 3,35,000 in the 5K Burn N Turn). The series recorded 1,164 entries in total and collected a massive INR 1 Crore in prize money.
