Meet Debayan Das, a formidable force in India’s poker landscape. His journey from being an avid football player to becoming a prominent poker player is nothing short of inspiring. It showcases his unwavering resilience, dedication, hard work, passion and an innate drive to excel in the games.
Debayan was introduced to this beautiful game of poker by a couple of friends during his college days at IIT Patna in 2012 when he used to play a lot of football. Unfortunately, he suffered a football injury and was bedridden for a few weeks. Upon returning back to his college, he found some friends playing poker with small buy-ins and got hooked on the game.
By 2014, Debayan Das had moved back to Mumbai, but could not play poker professionally due to being too busy with his professional commitments. It was in 2018 when he got some free time and decided to take up the game professionally. Since then, there has been no looking back. He has won an impressive 43 titles and amassed INR 1.7 crores in online winnings, placing him as one of the most accomplished online MTT crushers in India.
Although widely known for his online exploits, his achievements are not just confined to virtual felts. He has made a strong impact in the live arena, cashing several events at the Deltin Poker Tournament and Poker Baazi Tour. Most recently, he made waves at the DPT Grand 2024 Edition in October. He claimed an impressive two runner-up finishes. He first finished for INR 4.14 Lakhs in the Mystery Bounty and then followed that up with another runner-up finish for INR 4.49 Lakhs in the Deepstack Closer.
Before these stellar performances at the DPT Grand edition, Das made headlines with his massive online victories. In August, he conquered Pokerbaazi’s India Poker Masters (IPM) #11 Big Bounty 60L GTD, taking home a career-high INR 14,76,602 and his first IPM Trophy. Just a little over two months later, he then claimed another major victory, winning PokerBaazi’s 1 Crore GTD The MoneyMaker for INR 11,56,462. While Das continues to play MTTs, he is now primarily focused on cash games.
