The past two months have been very hectic for the seven-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu. He vloged every 2024 WSOP event he participated in. The 50-year-old poker pro also went on to win his 7th WSOP Bracelet this year. He took down the Event #58: $50k Poker Players Championship, claiming his 7th career bracelet, and adding $1,178,703 to his live tournament winnings. He has now found a different route to time pass, as he is starring in a movie.
In August 2023, Negreanu posted on his social media “Was in Houston for the day shooting a fun scene for a movie that is going to kick ass for real.” While it was unknown which movie he was talking about. New reports have confirmed that he was talking about a film called ‘Ick.’
Ick is a film directed by the Grammy-winning filmmaker Joseph Kahn. The filmmaker started out directing music videos for famous artists like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Kendrick Lamar, DJ Khaled, Eminem, and others.
As reported by Variety, Superman Returns starring Brandon Routh and Mena Suvari of American Beauty will be the main leads. The movie will follow Hank, played by Routh, a high school science teacher who still pines for his childhood sweetheart, played by Suvari. While discovering he may have a teenage daughter, portrayed by Malina Weissman, Hank must fight a terrifying alien anomaly invading their small town.
Both Kahn and Negreanu share a long-standing poker relationship. Negreanu also had made cameo appearances in Kahn’s previous projects, including the film Bodied (2017), produced by Eminem, and Katy Perry’s music video Waking Up in Vegas (2009).
Talking about his experience working with Joseph Khan, Negreanu wrote in his blog, “I thoroughly enjoy the film industry, and working with Joseph Kahn is super easy. The guy is amazing, and I love watching him direct. He has quite an amazing mind and works super fast and efficiently.”
Negreanu hasn’t confirmed whether he will play himself or a completely original character. “It’s a bit of a surprise,” Negreanu told CardPlayer. Daniel Negreanu has acted in several Hollywood films, and vlogging on his YouTube channel has made him comfortable acting in front of a camera.
Negreanu has previously worked in films and television shows, such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Lucky You, Mr. D, and Private Eyes. He told CardPlayer he enjoys doing acting gigs. Before getting into poker, Negreanu was very passionate about acting. He was even an extra in Anne of Green (1985) film when he was just 13 years old.
He thought of becoming an actor growing up, but then poker changed his life.
Ick film is set to premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. However, Negreanu is likely to miss the movie premiere as he is planning to travel to Vancouver in September to stream the GG Online Poker Series. GGPoker ambassador is also eying to score another bracelet in this year’s WSOP Paradise.
