Calvin Anderson Wins 2023 WPT Prime Championship ($1.4 Million)

Debuting at the Wynn Las Vegas in 2022, the World Poker Tour Prime Championship $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em event drew in a massive turnout of 5,430 entries to crush its $2 million guarantee. The second running of the Championship featured an increased guarantee of $5 million while keeping the same buy-in. This year saw a huge 10,512 entries that generated nearly $10.2 million in prize pool.

Following four starting flights and four more days of action, it was Calvin Anderson who emerged victorious. The Las Vegas-based poker pro earned a career- best payday of $1,386,280. The four-time WSOP bracelet winner now has more than $5.9 million in live poker tournament earnings. He was one of the 1,309 finishers who cashed from the $10.2 million prize pool with a min-cash being $1,700.

The final day began with Jay Lu in the chip lead and Anderson in second position. Valeriy Pak was the first to fall, with his A-9 running into the pocket kings of Anderson. Pak was eliminated in sixth place ($290,000). Eliminations continued and finally it came to the heads-up between Aaron Pinson and Anderson who began the dual with 120,300,000 to Pinson’s 301,100,000. The lead exchanged several times before the final hand. Ultimately, it was Anderson who remained ahead and won the title.

On the final hand, Anderson raised with Qs 7s and Pinson moved all-in with Kc Qh. The board ran out Js 9h 8h 7d 6h, giving Anderson the coveted title and $1,386,280 in top prize money. Pinson earned a career-best $910,000 as the runner-up.
