Poker is a game, where it takes dozens of years of knowledge to crush at live tournaments and high rollers. Despite this, only a select few young poker players have been able to make a name for themselves in both High Rollers and tournaments. Adrian Mateos Diaz, aka Adrian Mateos, is one of those young players who was able to make his name in both major tournaments and high rollers.

The popular Spanish player, who kicked off his poker journey in 2012, rapidly established himself as a prominent figure in the game. Currently holding 3rd spot on the GPI Global ranking, the four-time bracelet winner ranks 9th in Hendon Mob’s all-time money list, with nearly $49 million in live tournament winnings. In this report, we will discuss Adrian Mateos’s early life, poker career, and net worth.

Adrián Mateos Life Before Poker 

Born on July 1, 1994, in Madrid, Spain. From an early age, Adrian Mateos was very good at studies and went on to study economics in college. It was 2010 when poker was at its peak and booming all around the world, and Mateos got introduced to poker through mutual friends. 

In an interview with Calvin Ayre, Mateos said that He started his poker journey at the age of 16. In the beginning, he would study poker on his own and always read as much as he could to learn more about the game. 

He began his journey by playing cash games in the local casinos and made enough money to move to London at 18 to further push his professional poker career. 

Adrián Mateos Live Poker Career and Winnings 

As reported by Hendon Mob Mateos, the first live tournament was in his city Madrid in 2012. He won the €600 buy-in NLHE Main Event to claim $42,399 in prize money. 

In 2013, Mateos began competing in high rollers at the European Poker Tour. He started the year with a 1st place finish in €1,100 NLHE Main Event at ESPT, earning $137,247. He then made a significant impact in €10,300 NLHE High Roller, finishing 12th place to earn $29,188.

He ended 2013 on a high note, as Mateos triumphed in the €10,000 NLHE Main Event at the World Series of Poker Europe in Paris. He walked away with the top prize money of $1,351,661 and his first gold bracelet. Mateos defeated Fabric Soulier in the heads-up battle for the title. 

With that victory, he became the second youngest WSOPE Main Event Champion, following Norwegian Annette Obrestad, who won in 2007.

2014 was very bland for Mateos. He did not achieve any significant tournament score that year. The next time he scored more than $1 million was in May 2015, when he took down the €10,000 NLHE Main Event at the European Poker Tour, earning $1,214,161. 

In 2016, Adrian Mateos clinched his second WSOP bracelet at the 47th World Series of Poker in the $1,500 NLHE event. He outlasted a massive field of 1,840 on his way toward the victory, earning $409,171. 

In 2017, Mateos claimed his third WSOP bracelet in the $10k NLHE Heads-up Championship, earning $336,656. He became the youngest player to win a bracelet at the age of just 22. 

Aside from his WSOP and EPT titles, he claimed three other major titles. In 2017, he made a 1st place finish in the €50,000 NLHE event at the PokerStars Championship, earning $988,924. 

In 2019, Mateos won the PartyPoker World MILLIONS $10,000 Main Event for a staggering $1,163,000 and another $25,000 NLHE High Roller for $520,000. 

His most recent WSOP bracelet victory came in 2021 when he emerged victorious in the WSOP  $250,000 NLHE Super High Roller. Not only did he secure his fourth gold bracelet, but he also won his second biggest live prize of $3,265,000. 

Some of Mateos’ recent victories came in Triton Super High Roller. He claimed two Triton titles this year and made 8 cashes. In March 2024, he won the $30,000 NLHE High Roller at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Jeju, earning $1,175,000. His second Triton title came in May 2024 when he triumphed in the $50,000 NLHE High Roller, earning $1,761,000. 

Surprisingly, his biggest live winnings came this year, that too in Triton High Roller. In May 2024, he competed in the $200,000 High Roller at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro, earning $3,292,000 for his 2nd place finish. This is his best live score so far. 

Talking about his WSOP 2024 campaign, he cashed an impressive six events in the series and ranked in over $1,503,816 in earnings.  He came close to winning his fifth bracelet in two events. first placing 4th for $681,554 in Event #39: $50,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em (8-Handed) and finishing 5th in $198,261 in Event #94: $10,000 No-Limit Hold’em Championship (6-Handed).

Adrian Mateos currently sits at a net worth of $48 million, which he made from playing poker professionally, and from sponsorship with French online poker room Winamax. In his 12 years of live poker career, he has cashed over 277, amassing ‌$48,736,110 in live poker earnings. 

He currently holds 9th place in Hendon Mob’s all-time money list, which makes him the second youngest High Roller player on that list, following Mikita Bodyakovsky in 5th place.
