The veteran poker pro Aditya Agarwal makes India proud by winning the country second bracelet at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP). Following over 17-year long grind at the WSOP, the Indian poker super star has finally grabbed his first WSOP bracelet by shipping Event #82: $1,000 No Limit Hold’em for a sum of $189,661 (~INR 1.58 Crore).

The Mangalore-based player overcame a highly competitive field of 1,424 entries and defeated Argentina’s Augusto Hagen in heads-up play to become the second Indian to clinch a bracelet this summer after Santhosh Suvarana, who had shipped the $250K Super High Roller title a few days back, clinching India its first WSOP 2024 bracelet victory. This historic feat marks Agarwal’s third-highest WSOP earnings and represents India’s seventh bracelet victory in live events overall.

Post his victory, the first-time bracelet winner Agarwal said, “I’ve been a professional, I think, for twenty years now. I’ll be turning forty this year, and I’ve played in the World Series every year since I was twenty-one!” Agarwal also thanked his rail who supported him till the wee hours of the morning.

Agarwal further added, “They’re more than my friends; they’re my students. I would like to give a shout-out to them. They have definitely helped me be the player I am. This feels good. It’s been a rough summer. So this definitely feels good.”

Agarwal’s journey to victory was nothing short of extraordinary. Heading into the final table seventh of 10 players, he played some top-notch poker, gaining his momentum with a crucial double-up against Jesse Wigan and then continuing his ascent by eliminating Robert Macri, Tengqi Zhan, and Alexander Holtz to make his way to the heads-up against Augusto Hagen.

In the heads-up battle, Aditya Agarwal held a commanding 8:1 chip advantage, which made his path to victory remarkably smooth and easy. In the final hand, Agarwal’s eight-six triumphed over Augusto Hagen’s ten-eight. The board ran out A-10-4-5-7, giving Agarwal a runner-runner straight for the coveted victory.

While Agarwal dominated the show, India’s Sriharsha Doddapaneni also made a significant mark in this event. He finished72nd for $2,764, marking his seventh cash of series and taking his winnings to $28,502.
