David Tuchman, the 888ride presenter and WSOP commentator, drives around the world, picks popular poker players for in-depth conversations about their life and games. In his most recent episode, he featured the ace poker player Jonathan Little, who is also a popular poker coach, author, content creator. During the talk, Little shared about his days in school life, interest in chess, and patience in the game.
Little was fond of playing chess at school time and used to wake up at 4 am to play speed chess before going to school. He was pretty good at the game but he left playing the game when he realized he can do nothing big in the world of chess and chose poker in his college time.
Poker, Coaching, Business & Personal Life
Talking about his accomplishments, Little has had an impressive career. On the felt, he has amassed over $9 million in live poker tournament earnings and has numerous other accolades under his belt. His 2024 started with two massive victories in the PokerGO Cup. He took down another $200K+ win in the Poker Masters in September, followed by a deep run in the WSOP Main Event, and much more.
As a poker author and coach, he has written 15 poker books and is the owner of one of the most successful training sites around. While all this requires lots of time, dedication and sacrifices, he says that balancing things is very important in life, so he takes frequent breaks and focuses on things he loves doing.
Unlike many influencers in the poker community, Little remains very reserved in sharing his opinions outside of poker. According to him, certain topics, like sports and politics, are going to divide people no matter what side we take.
When not working or playing the game, he tries to spend much of his time with his family: his two boys and his wife. His approach to tournaments is showing up and just doing the work, without worrying about individual results.
Little’s Poker Journey, Downswings & Approach In Life
Little has been playing, coaching and living poker since a long time. By the time he turned 19, he amassed $100,000 playing online, before facing downswing that saw him lose a half of it in a very short span.
With $30k he spent on a condo deposit, he was left with just $20k. However, he did not lose his cool. He dropped down in stakes and decided to grind it out before moving back up. This discipline and strategic approach helped him rebuild his bankroll and also convinced that he was actually good at poker and that he could make a career out of it.
Little has been applying this approach in his life outside poker too – trying to stay focused and not stress too much about anything. Even when it comes to his coaching business, he prefers to delegate tasks to other people and allow them deal with things he’s not good at. In his message to aspiring players, he conveys that the game is still very much beatable at lower and medium stakes, especially in the live scene. According to him, things in high-stakes scene get much tougher but there are still certain games and tournaments that can be beaten in that setting too.
