October is turning out to be a blockbuster month for Spain’s PokerStars Ambassador Elias Gutierrez as the top five live poker tournament scores on his resume have come this month only. Two of his largest scores have come in just last few days.

Gutierrez recently took down a $25,000 buy-in event at the Poker Stars 2024 European Poker Tour Cyprus festival for a career-best $417,570 payday. Just five days after that win, the Spanish pro then won another high-stakes tournament, this time emerging victorious in the $25,000 Super High Roller Second Chance. He overcame a star-studded field of 50 entries, claiming $390,200 and his second Spadie.

The event ran over the course of two days and generated a massive $1,200,500 in prize pool. The top seven players made the money, with WSOP Europe main event champion Simone Andrian (7th – $63,000), recent $20k high roller champion of this series Ognyan Dimov (6th – $81,000), back-to-back EPT Barcelona €100k high roller champion Kayhan Mokri (5th – $102,000), 2023 WSOP Paradise high roller champion Samuel Mullur (4th – $132,100) were among the notables to cash the tournament.

The first player to finish in the money was Simone Andrian whose pocket queens did not hold up against the pocket ace-ten of Teun Mulder, whose next victim became Ognyan Dimov. The Bulgarian player’s ace-eight failed to beat pocket fives, ending his run in sixth place.

The next elimination was scored by Elias Gutierrez who won it with his A-9 beating the K-10 of Kayhan Mokri sending the latter to the rail in fifth place. He continued his domination, busting Samuel Mullur in fourth place with his A-J beating his opponent’s A-3. Gutierrez then won a crucial all-in with A-4 besting the A-Q of Hassan Nashar. He hit a wheel to eliminate Nashar in third place ($174,100).

The heads-up began with Elias Gutierrez holding a healthy lead against Teun Mulder. It didn’t take long for Gutierrez to convert his more than 4:1 chip lead n into the title. In the final hand, Gutierrez limped with Jd 6h and Mulder checked with 5s 2h. The flop delivered Jh 5d 3h and Mulder check-called with his middle pair. The 4c on the turn saw Mulder lead out for a min-bet and Gutierrez called. The 3c on the river completed the board and Mulder checked. Gutierrez bet enough with his top pair to put Mulder all-in. Mulder made the call. Gutierrez showed a jack pair, which was good to eliminate the Dutch player in second place. He earned $258,100, taking his live earnings to over $8.7 million.

Bobby James Leads Into Day 4 Of EPT Cyprus Main Event; India’s Santhosh Suvarna Also In Contention

Over to the PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus Main Event, there are only 45 players remaining in contention after the conclusion of Day 3. Bobby James from the United Kingdom leads the way with 2,605,000 in chips. James rivered the nut flush to beat Akin Tuna’s flopped straight to double up to 1,600,000, then won another big hand with aces against Maksim Rogov’s kings to cross 2,000,000 the mark.

Other notables remaining in contention include former EPT champion Anton Wigg (1.195M), Andrea Dato (780K) and Halil Tasyurek (965K). While each of the remaining players is assured at least $18,240, they will be eyeing the coveted EPT trophy and the $1.03 Million top prize.

Also in contention is India’s high roller sensation Santhosh Suvarna with a stack of 245,000 chips.Starting with 187,000 chips, Suvana had a rollercoaster day. He surged to nearly 600,000 but then eventually ended Day 3 with  245,000 chips (16 BBs). He is one of the short stacks (41st in chips), but with his skill and determination, anything is possible for an experienced high-stakes player like him.

Suvarna is India’s current all-time money earner, boasting nearly $14.50 Million in live tournament earnings. He is no stranger to claiming big victories. He has already won two WSOP bracelets, a Triton Poker Super High Roller Series win, and an EPT title. Now he is looking for a historic finish in this main event. If he gains early momentum, he has a shot at surpassing Sriharsha Doddapaneni‘s record 12th-place finish in the EPT Barcelona Main Event last month.
