Nick Petrangelo is well regarded as one of the fraternity’s best high-stakes poker players. But his journey didn’t start from high stakes. This highly talented poker pro started his journey by playing low-stakes poker. 

Despite getting coaching from a poker pro, Petrangelo didn’t succeed in his initial professional poker career. Still, he stayed there, marking his name as one of the best High Stakes poker pros. Who is Nick Petrangelo? Early Life and Poker Introduction 

Nick Petrangelo is an American poker player, born on January 2nd, 1987, in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. Right from childhood, he had an interest in active sports and eventually fell in love with golf and hockey. 

It wasn’t until High School that Petrangelo got introduced to poker through friends. He enjoyed playing friendly poker games with friends but didn’t take poker as seriously as he was taking other games. 

When studying at Skidmore College in New York, Petrangelo was one of the top athletes but he  was forced to retire from sports as he faced a serious concussion. That concussion completely changed his life, and he began playing online poker to fill the void. 

In 2000, Petrangelo’s roommate was the neighbor of poker pro Jonathan Jaffe. His roommate told him about Jonathan Jaffe, who dropped out of school as he was making $40k a year from heads-up sit & go. 

Petrangelo then met Jaffe and made him a mentor, learning everything he could from the pro. In a podcast with Joe Ingram, Petrangelo revealed that Jaffe allowed him to watch his gameplay live. He would always go to Jaffe’s house where Jaffe would play $5k heads-up, and Petrangelo would play 3 rebuy. 

He graduated in 2010 with a degree in Economics and Business, beginning his professional poker career.

Nick Petrangelo’s Poker Career and Earnings 

Nick Petrangelo competed in his first ever live tournament — as per the Hendon Mob — in 2009 Winter Poker Meltdown’s $560 NLH Six-Handed event, where he came 4th, banking $3,958.

In October 2011, Petrangelo came 3rd in the World Poker Finals $2,325 NLH event, collecting $24,145. In 2012, Petrangelo tasted success as he won his first-ever live tournament. He came 1st in the 2012 World Poker Finals $1,500 NLH DeepStack to receive $73,023. 

2010 to 2015 were the toughest years for Petrangelo, as he wasn’t making any significant progress in the game and felt left out. In a podcast with Mark Herm, Nick Petrangelo said that he felt left out as he saw his peers being successful and best at what they do, which he wasn’t‌. 

Petrangelo played his first High Roller in 2010 in PCA’s $10,300 NLH Main Event, where he came 86th, collecting $23,500. But Petrangelo didn’t touch High Rollers until 2014. In 2014, Nick Petrangelo came 14th in the EPT Monte Carlo €10,600 Main Event, cashing $86,260 for his deep finish. 

He then went to play his first World Poker Tournament in 2014, where he competed in the C$10,400 NLH High Roller, earning $28,487 for finishing 7th Petrangelo ended 2014 with a 16th place finish in the World Poker Tour $10,400 Main Event for $42,487.

Nick Petrangelo’s career graph saw a big spike in 2015, which completely changed Petrangelo’s career. 

Petrangelo began 2015 with a major title win in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $5,300 NLH Turbo 8 Handed, earning his first-ever six-figure sum of $113,853. In that same series, he finished 6th in the $25,000 NLH High Roller and banked a staggering $301,500. 

One month later, in March 2015, Nick Petrangelo took part in the EPT Malta €25,500 High Roller to cash $217,998 for his 4th place finish. In that same series, he cashed another six-figure sum of $152,167, as he finished 6th in the €10,300 NLH High Roller. 

In August 2015, Petrangelo scored another staggering cash as he came 3rd in EPT Barcelona €10,300 High Roller 8 Handed to bank $669,512. In October, the poker pro scored another six-figure for his 3rd place finish in EPT Malta €25,750 High Roller 8 Handed for $261,411. 

He ended the year with a 2nd place finish in the WPT Alpha 8 $100,000 High Roller, collecting his first-ever seven-figure score of $1,015,335. After 2015, Nick Petrangelo didn’t stop and scored multiple six-figure scores in several series, as well as collecting trophies. 

In 2016, Petrangelo won his first EPT title after winning the EPT Barcelona €10,300 NLH for $464,154. In 2017, the poker pro claimed his first-ever Aussie Millions title as he emerged victorious in the Aussie Millions Poker Championship $100,000 Challenge Event for $666,113. 

In 2020, when the live poker world shifted online, Nick Petrangelo took down the WPT Online $3,200 World Championship 6-Max event in partypoker, becoming a WPT Champion and earning $494,550. In 2021, the WPT Champion took down the PGT ARIA $200,000 High Roller Event 26 for a seven-figure score of $1,468. 

Talking about some of his recent cashes, the 37-year-old poker pro recently won his first-ever Triton title in the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro $52,000 for $775,000. In June 2024, Petrangelo won the $10,400 Wynn Summer Championship for a staggering $2,221,775 top prize. 

As of now, Nick Petrangelo has cashed in 189 tournaments, earning ‌$37,629,233 from live poker earnings. He currently holds the 17th place in Hendon Mob’s all-time money list, just $1 million behind Timothy Adams. 

Nick Petrangelo World Series of Poker (WSOP) Bracelets 

Nick Petrangelo competed in his first-ever WSOP event in 2009 in the $2,000 NLH event, collecting $3,629 for his 167th-place finish. Two years later, he again competed in the World Series of Poker but made a 25th-place finish in the $2,500 NLH, and banked $21,933. 

In 2015, Petrangelo secured his first-ever WSOP bracelet in the 46th WSOP Event #4: $3,000 NLH Shootout for $201,812. Petrangelo’s second bracelet came in 2018, where he won Event #5: $100,000 NLH High Roller for his highest career prize ever of $2,910,227 and second career bracelet. 

As of  August 2024, the two-time bracelet winner has earned nearly $6.7 million with 32 cashes and over 8 final table finishes in the World Series of Poker.

Nick Petrangelo Net Worth In 2024

While exact figures regarding his net worth are not available, he is one one of the most formidable poker players
in the industry. As of September 2024, Petrangelo ranks 17th on the poker all-time money list, having amassed more than
$37 million in live tournament earnings through his career. It is important to note that a poker player’s net worth
can be determined by considering various factors such as investments, sponsorships and other sources of income.

Petrangelo also serves as the tournament and live cash game coach at Upswing Poker, which likely adds to his overall net worth beyond earnings from poker.

Nick Petrangelo’s Personal Life 

He currently resides in Las Vegas, but there isn’t any information regarding his personal life. The poker pro has been spotted many times with a girl, but it’s still unknown whether he is married or not.
