2024 SHRS Event #5: $102,000 No-Limit Hold’em Final Table Recap

Only 9 players returned to the final day, with everyone aiming to finish in the top 5. The money bubble burst after Poker Hall of Fame inductee Patrik Antonius bowed out in 6th place, setting up the final 5.

Adrian Mateos knocked out final table chip leader Artsiom Lasouski after Lasouski’s pocket sixes couldn’t withstand Mateos’s pocket nines. Lasouski walked away on 5th for $280,000.

Mateos soon followed Lasouski to the rail (4th – $420,000), kicking off the three-handed play. Mateos goes all-in with A-3 against Thomas Santerne’s pocket queens, only to draw dead.

In the three-handed play, Brian Kim 3-bet jammed with J♦10♦ against a raise from Vaskresenski, who held A♥︎K♥︎. Vaskresenski’s hand held up, leaving Kim short in stacks.

Kim did a double-up to save his tournament life, but later moved all-in with A♦8♦ against Santerne’s 10♥︎9♥︎. A ten on the flop gave Santerne the lead, ending Kim’s deep run in 3rd place for $610,000.

Santerne entered the heads-up with a short lead against the eventual winner, Vaskresenski, who quickly took over the lead and held it until the final hand of the tournament.

In the final hand, Vaskresenski held K-7, while Santerne held Q-6. Vaskresenski made trips of kings, sending out Santerne in 2nd place for $870,000.
