Sherman Wu Wins MSPT Bally’s Black Hawk Showdown Main Event

The Mid-Stakes Poker Tour Bally’s Black Hawk Showdown has concluded with Sherman Wu winning the $1,100 buy-in no-limit hold’em main event for a six-figure score of $123,059. MSPT Bally’s Black Hawk Showdown series hosted ‌17 trophy events, headlined by the $1.1k $300,000 GTD Main Event.

The $1,100 buy-in Main Event drew a field of 606 entrants, which doubled the guaranteed prize pool to $586,320, shared among the top 65 finishers. Only 64 players moved into the final day, with all aiming for a pay jump. 

Several MSPT regulars made it into the money, including MSPT Champion Beau Wilshire (39th place – $2,453). MSPT HOF Josh Reichard (28th place – $2,746) and MSPT Hall of Famer Umut Ozturk (22nd place – $4,212). MSPT January runner-up Jeremy Wood aiming to win his first MSPT Main Event, got eliminated on the bubble, just one spot away from making it to the final table.

The final table saw its first elimination after short-stacked Ken Rabideau’s hand was beaten by Thomas Fuller’s hand, sending him out in 9th place for $11,072. Fuller then scored another elimination by knocking out Troy VanOrden in 8th place for $14,004.

Corey Dodd (7th – $18,108) entered the final table as the chip lead, but his deep run ended after he failed to hit a straight against Sherman Wu’s pocket kings. After the elimination of Codd, the table saw two quick eliminations, as Sergio Martinez and Matthe Rice bowed out in 6th and 5th place, respectively. 

Thomas Fuller’s dominating run came to an end after his inferior pair faced the pocket kings of Vladas Tamasauskas. Thomas Fuller, who made a 48th place finish in the previous MSPT Black Hawk Main Event, existed in 4th place, earning $40,974. 

Tamasauskas then knocked out William Gibbons in 3rd place, beginning the heads-up battle. Tamasauskas held a short chip lead against Wu, but Wu soon took the chip lead. 

In the final hand of the tournament, Tamasauskas moved the last of his chip stacks with 2♠︎2♥︎, and Wu called the all-in with his 9♦8♦. The board card ran out J♦6♣︎5♥︎A♠︎7♣︎, giving Wu a straight, eliminating Tamasauskas in 2nd place for $75,538. 

While Sherman Wu walked away with the top prize of $123,059 and an MSPT Trophy.
