The 2024 World Series of Poker Poker (WSOP) has officially come to an end. The grand finale of the world’s biggest and richest series featured several events, including Event #93: $777 Lucky 7’s No-Limit Hold’em (7-Handed), which drew an impressive 6,292 entries and built a massive prize pool of $4,302,218. The top 296 players shared the prize pool, with the lion’s share  going to the eventual winner Michael Liang, who clinched his maiden WSOP bracelet and a massive payout of $777,777.

Entering heads-up play with a 9:1 chip deficit, Liang staged an incredible comeback, busting Nguyen in second place for $300,777 and etching his name as the WSOP champion in poker history books.

The third and final day of this event saw five players return to battle it out for the title, including the two Indo-Americans, Manoj Batavia and Rajesh Mehta. The final table was dominated by chip leader Duc Nguyen, who scored the first knockout of the day by busting Mitch Garshofsky in fifth place.  The three-time WSOP circuit ring winner had shoved his five big blinds with ace-four versus Nguyen’s ace-jack.

Nguyen continued his momentum, shoving against the short-stacked Manoj Batavia, who held ace-ten against Nguyen’s king-ten. Nguyen spiked a king on the turn, eliminating Batavia in fourth place.

Nguyen then knocked out another Indo-American Rajesh Mehta in third place shortly after. Mehta, moved all in preflop with jack-six suited and lost to Nguyen’s queen-ten. It looked like an easy win for  Nguyen, who entered heads-up action with over a 9:1 chip lead over Liang. However, the latter was not ready to exit without a fight, and found an early double up with trip sevens. Following a back and forth battle ahead, he pulled away as the final hand arose. Finally, all the chips went in on the turn board and Nguyen saw his pocket jacks getting beaten by Ks 4s on the 10h 4c 6h Kd 2c board.

Abhishek Paul Tops Team India’s Scorecard

Several Indians made waves in this event, with Abhishek Paul, the DPT November 2022 Main Event champion, leading the charge. Paul finished 30th for $14,030, his fifth cash of the series. India’s Himmat Singh had a roller-coaster ride on Day 2. Despite a great comeback, his journey ended in 119th place and a $3,300, his third cash of the series. Ashish Munot (267th for $2,319), Uday Kwatra (361st for $2,040), and Siddarth Singhvi (866th for $1,554) were the other Indians to cash the event.
