2024 WSOP: Brent Hart Wins Event #16: $5K No-Limit Hold’em; Kartik Ved Finishes Fourth

In Event #16: $5K 8-Handed NLHE at the ongoing World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2024, the USA’S Brent Hart triumphed over a competitive field to claim his first-ever WSOP gold bracelet and a career-high prize of $660,284. Hart’s remarkable journey saw him outlast a field of 660 entries, culminating in a thrilling heads-up victory against Eddie Ochana, who took home $440,202 for his runner-up finish.

The event featured both seasoned professionals and rising stars, including India’s former WSOP bracelet winner Kartik Ved. Ved etched his name as the first Indian to reach a final table at this year’s WSOP. He started the final table with the second shortest stack and ultimately finished 4th for $220,373 (INR 1.84 Crores). Ved’s impressive run ended during Level 33 when his all-in with A♣ 9♦ was called by Ochana’s K♥ 5♦. The board ran 7♦ 5♣ 4♥ Q♠ J♥, ending Ved’s jounrey in 4th place.

WSOP 2024 Event #16: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em Quick Recap

This $5,000 buy-in eight-max no-limit hold’em tournament drew a field of an impressive 660 entries for a prize pool of $3,036,000. The top 124 players made the money with a min cash of $9,964.

239 advanced to day 2, and after the money bubble burst on the second day of play, the final 41 made it to day 3. The penultimate day saw the field trim down to the final seven players.

Brent Hart faced a challenging moment during four-handed play as he dropped to the last in chips. However, he fought back to claim the top spot. Eddie Ochana seemed poised for victory as he took out Shant Marashlian in fifth place, Kartik Ved in fourth place, and Alexander Queen in third place.

Hart had a huge chip disadvantage when the heads-up for the title began, but he soon secured a double and then chipped away to take the lead. The final hand saw Ochana  move all-in with K-3, but he was dominated by the K-J of Hart. Ochana did find a pair on the 10h 6d 3d flop, but Hart came from behind to win it with a jack on the river. Ochana took home $440,204 for his runner-up finish.
