Night of Glory & NPC Showdown In Goa

Following the conclusion of the record-breaking NPS 2025 edition on PokerBaazi, it was time to celebrate the NPS champions at the Night of Glory, a memorable night for the Indian poker community where cricket legend Shikhar Dhawan felicitated the champions. Being a big fan of Dhawan, Zarvan was overjoyed upon receiving medals from the renowned cricketer. According to him, it was like a dream come true moment for him. 

Following the conclusion of the grand ‘Night of Glory’, the NPS 2025 action then moved to Goa for the inaugural National Poker Champion Showdown, a ₹1 Crore GTD 5-day offline event featuring top 12 state champions where Zarvan represented Maharashtra. While it was Mohit Bohra who ultimately clinched the NPC title and the ₹1 Crore prize , Zarvan’s presence and performance throughout the event showcased the spirit of elite competition.

The crown jewel of NPS 2025, the 10 Crore GTD NPS#191 Main Event, which drew 7,594 entrants across nine starting flights for a shot at glory. Out of the massive field, 702 contenders made it to Day 2 on Monday at 7:30 PM. Following close to 9-hour of action, Bhavye ‘noobnoob’ Mittal etched his name in poker history as the fifth-ever NPS Main Event champion, securing the prestigious NPS Gold Medal and a life-changing  payout of ₹94.26 Lakhs in top prize—the  largest score of his career.

Dhruvin Kothari finished runner-up, making his debut NPS appearance count by securing ₹82.11 Lakhs and silver medal. Pratik Manjrekar took the final spot on the podium, earning ₹60.64 Lakh and a bronze medal.

With over 12 live victories and $822,874 in live earnings, PokerBaazi Team Pro Zarvan Tumboli is one of the most decorated poker players in India. With a fourth-place finish in the Main Event and 104th place in the Golden Rush on the final day, he added 2,543 points, bringing his total to 36,756 points from 158 cashes. This feat earned him a ₹20 Lakhs prize and an extra 10 Lakhs from the final day performance. The final spot on the podium went to Vinay Rajpal, who showcased remarkable consistency and strategic mastery throughout the series. This landmark victory marked his second live title of 2024, and to achieve this epic win, he defeated a massive field of 2,219 entries and Hong Kong’s Leung Ka Shing in the heads-up play. The final hand of the tournament was a nail-biter one. Zarvan held pocket deuces against Shing‘s A-9. The flop 2, 9, A gave Zarvan a set, which was enough for him to seal the title as the turn 7 and the river 10 did not help his opponent to get there.

The RM 2 Million guaranteed main event of Poker Dream 8 Malaysia turned out to be a grand success, collecting a staggering prize pool of RM 5,734,039 on the back of 2,219 entries across its 12 starting flights. Zarvan qualified for Day through flight Day 1G. Day 2 of the event was a little topsy-turvy, but Zarvan managed to keep his poker dream alive, bagging the chip lead into the coveted final table. He kept his momentum, outlasting all his opponents on the final table and eventually seizing the glory.

Among other Indians to cash the Main Event were Pocket52 Team Pro Dhaval Mudgal (52nd for RM 14,200), Vikaash Shah (127th for RM 7,200), Chirag Shah (239th for RM 5,800), and WPT Cambodia champion Shivam Shukla (240th for RM 5,800).

A key figure in the Asian poker circle, Zarvan is no stranger to such big feats, having won several prestigious events like 2022 BPT ₹100K Highroller, WPT Prime Vietnam Main Event, APPT Cambodia Mini Main Event, and VSOP Championship IX Main Event along with several other titles in Cambodia, Vietnam and India. Zarvan was recently seen grinding at the WPT Cambodia. Although he didn’t make a significant impact during that series in Cambodia, Zarvan has displayed his prowess at Poker Dream 8, securing two major victories in Event#22: RM 1,500 NLH a couple of days back and Event #12: Main Event today.

Apart from Tumboli, Pocket52 Team Pro Dhaval Mudgal also secured a spot at the final table in the tournament, finishing fourth for RM 13,500 (approximately INR 2.38 Lakhs). Another Indian, Chirag Shah, fell a few spots shy of the final table, exiting in 13th for RM 2,700 ( approximately INR 47,504).

The RM 1,500 NLH event on 3rd February witnessed a fierce battle among the top nine players, eventually culminating in Zarvan’s well-deserved victory. The top 15 players won the money, with Foong Soo Sing (15th for 2,400) becoming the first player to finish in the money.

Both Tumboli and Mudgal are currently grinding in Day 2 of the main event. Despite a modest impact in WPT Cambodia, their fortunes have taken a positive turn in the ongoing Poker Dream 8 Malaysia.

And these superstitious beliefs go beyond just Indian players. Be it Radhika Shankar having a Peppa Pig toy, or WSOP 2021 Main Event winner Espen Jorstad placing his trust in a small Mario figurine, the lucky charm at the poker table phenomenon is real and global.

Talking of lucky charms, Indian poker pro Zarvan Tumboli has always been vocal about how he believes that his 2-year-old daughter Tiara is his lucky charm. Although Zarvan does not take his daughter along at the tables, he has not shied away from acknowledging how his poker career has shaped after Tiara’s birth.

Currently, the Mumbai-based player and former Spartan Poker Brand Ambassador is grinding at the World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia 2024, happening at Nagaworld Integrated Resorts in Cambodia. And it seems like Zarvan has a lucky charm supporting him, except this time around it isn’t his beloved daughter. Instead, it is a grey-colored soft toy of a shark. 

Zarvan shared a picture of his poker table which has his chips neatly stacked beside the soft toy facing him. The WPT Prime champion wrote, “Put this shark soft toy next to me cause he believes I am One. That’s sweet. Hopefully, I live up to his expectation!?” followed by laughing emojis. Clearly, the Shark now has another shark accompanying him, opponent be aware!

It certainly looks like the pro has found a new lucky charm that he can carry with him at the poker tables, while his daughter continues to be one from home. Meanwhile, the pro is enjoying his grinding sessions in Cambodia. 

But ironically, Zarvan wasn’t the only player carrying a lucky charm at the table. He later posted another image wherein an opponent was seen sitting with a black rock with him. “Rock Solid,” Zarvan wote. 

A few days ago, he posted pictures of himself enjoying a hearty meal of his favorite steak at a Japanese Barbeque restaurant on a day off with buddy and poker player Dhaval Mudgal.

He also shared pictures where he spent his day off shopping for his darling daughter, whom he was “missing way too much.” He described how he went to the mall for a meal but ended up shopping heaps of outfits for his daughter instead. 

On the game front, Zarvan earlier played the mystery bounty and is now grinding at the 2K bounty event. He is yet to find luck at the series and kick-start his earnings for 2024. However, with several events of the series still left, Zarvan will surely open his account pretty soon. 

On the other hand, the Indian contingent has opened its account of trophies in the live poker circuit. WSOP Online bracelet winner Aayush Arya claimed India’s first live title of 2024 by emerging victorious at the WPT Cambodia 2024 Champions Deepstack 20/15/10/5 event for $9,152 (~₹7.61 Lakhs).

Zarvan took to Instagram to announce his departure from his role at Spartan Poker and share his gratitude. He said, “As I conclude my role as Spartan Poker’s brand ambassador, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for the remarkable journey we’ve embarked on together. Representing a brand that I deeply resonate with has been a privilege.” 

Currently ranked 15th on India all-time money list with a whopping $575,860 in live tournament earnings, the Mumbai poker pro is known for impeccable strategy and skills on the poker tables. His journey with Spartan Poker began in July last year, following his BPT High Roller win in March 2022 and WPT Prime Vietnam Main Event victory that came in May 2022. During his role as the Spartan Poker brand ambassador, he clinched an impressive five titles that include winning VSOP Championship IX Main Event ($52,294) in September 2023, WPT Prime Cambodia Event #9: PLO ($7,000) in August 2022, and APPT Cambodia Mini Main Event ($6,193) in November 2022.

Some of his major live titles on the international felts include winning the Opening Event (Event 1) at APT Macau for HK$ 74,300 and a No Limit Hold’em event (Event #4) at Platinum Series XIX (ACOP) Macau in 2017 and the VN₫ 5,500,000 No Limit Hold’em (Event #3) at WPT Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh in the year 2018.

Tumboli has an outstanding record on home turf as well with several notable titles in his kitty including the IPC 10K Freezeout victory and a BPT Highroller title, which came last year in March. He also served as the pro of MadOverPoker (MOP) in the past and was a contestant in the PokerHigh ‘Palyer Hunt’ Season 2.
