Born in 1990 in Oregon, from childhood, Davies was interested in sports and played baseball for the College of Southern Nevada’s team in Las Vegas. Davies discovered poker during his high school years, playing friendly poker games with friends.

Persistent injuries and a subsequent surgery forced him off the field, ultimately redirecting his focus toward honing his poker skills. After dedicating several years to grinding online, Davies relocated to Mexico to continue playing in the wake of Black Friday, steadily building his career in the game.

Seth Davies’ Poker Career Highlights and Earnings

One year later, in the 2018 PokerMasters $50,000 NLH Event, Davies came 3rd to collect $352,500. Running as part of the prestigious PGT 2024 Super High Roller Series at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel & Spa in North Cyprus, Super High Roller Bowl IX, has crowned its winner in Seth Davies, who pulled off a massive bluff in a crucial pot, a hand that helped propel the American poker legend to a Super High Roller Bowl Cyprus win worth $3,206,000 and his second PGT title. This victory marked his career-high score, topping his previous best $1,078,347 score for a runner-up in the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100k Super High Roller. After the latest win, his live tournament earnings grow to more than $29,268,411.

With the victory, Davies also joined the elite list of Super High Roller Bowl winners who include the likes of Brian Rast, Rainer Kempe, Christoph Vogelsang, Justin Bonomo, Isaac Haxton, Cary Katz, Daniel Dvoress, Timothy Adams, Wiktor Malinowski, Michael Addamo, and Daniel Negreanu.

Super High Roller Bowl IX Quick Recap

The $300,000 buy-in PokerGO Tour event drew a star-studded field of 24 entrants, creating $7,056,000 in the final prize pool. Some of the top poker pros of the world such as Davies, 11-time bracelet winner Phil Ivey, and 6-time bracelet Jeremy Ausmus and India’s two-time bracelet Santhosh Suvarna competed in this event. While Iyey and Suvarna failed to reach money, Ausmus finished third for an impressive $1,200,000,  his second seven-figure score of 2024 trailing his $1,892,260, which he earned this summer at WSOP 2024 $100k No Limit Hold’em High Roller (Event #47) for his runner-up finish.

The event ran over the course of three days and paid out the top four finishers. The final day saw the final four return to battle it out for the title, with Spaniard Juan Pardo holding the chip lead and being ahead of Davies and Leonard Maue. The first elimination of the day came in Germany’s Leonard Maue. Down to 11 bb, he shoved with ace-jack and Davies called the all-in with pocket jacks. The board bricked out, and Maue was eliminated in fourth place for $750,000 – his career-high score.

At the start of the three-handed play, Davies held 2.8 million ahead of Ausmus’ 2.25 million and Pardo’s 2.1 million. The key hand of the tournament occurred when Davies attempted a skillful bluff against Pardo, who opened the action with a raise holding Kh 7h and Davies called with 8s 6c. The flop came 4-4-3 and Pardo bet 60k and Devies called.

The 5s on the turn landed, giving some straight draw possibilities. Davies led out with a 90,000 bet, but his opponent responded by raising it to 315,000. Sensing weakness and holding a blocker to the straight with the 6c in his hand, Davies made  a bold move by three-betting to 650,000. With just 1.6 million chips remaining, Pardo folded, allowing Davies to scoop the pot with just eight-high. This moved Devies into a massive chip lead among the final three players.

Ausmus then came down to nearly 15 big blinds and called all-in holding Kc 9h against the Ac 6s of Pardo, who had shoved from the small blind. Both an ace and king fell on the flop, but no additional help came for Ausmus, and the six-time bracelet winner eliminated in third place ($1,200,000).

Davies began heads-up holding 4.26 million to 2.94 million lead over Pardo. The heads-up lasted only two hands, with both hands going Davies’ way. On the final hand, Davies raised with 8d 7c and Pardo defended with 4d-3h. After the flop 5c Ks 9c checked through, Davies hit a nine-high straight on the turn 6d, while Pardo picked up a low straight draw. Pardo bet and Davies called. The river brought 2c, giving Pardo a six-high straight. Pardo bet out over half of his chip stack and Davies moved all-in. Pardo tank-called all-in, only to be shown the nut straight of Davies. Pardo was busted in second place and collected $1,900,000 in prize money. This was his career-high score, pushing his live earnings to $13,303,664.

In our Poker Hand Analysis feature each week, we bring you a gripping hand. Today, we delve into a hand that occurred in Event #8: $25, 200 NLH, the final event of the PokerGo Cup this year.

This final event of the eight-tournament series drew 55 entries, collecting $1,375,000 in prize pool. Jonathan Little emerged as the champion of the tournament, banking a hefty $453,750 and lifting the PokerGO Cup leaderboard trophy in the process. With only five players left in this event, the intensity escalated, witnessing a few gripping hands involving Jonathan Little, Justin Zaki, and Seth Davies.

With 25,000/50,000 blinds and a 50,000 big blind ante, Jonathan faced a 120,000 raise from Zaki who held As 6s in the hijack and decided to only call holding Ac Kd in the cutoff. Seated in the big blind and left with only 190,000, Seth Davies called with his As 9s, leaving only 20,000 behind.

Flop: 10s 7d 5d

None of the players could connect on the flop and so they decided to check.

Turn: Qd

Once again, all three players checked, with Jonathan having the lead with the better kicker.

River: Kc

Improving to top pair and securing the check-mark, Jonathan fired out a bet of 150,000 after the check, forcing Davies to go all-in with just an ace-high hand. Left with a mere 20,000 behind, Davies was pretty committed and had little room for deliberation. Davies opted to call, while Zaki swiftly mucked his hand. As the cards were unveiled, Davies faced the unwelcome sight and bid farewell, finishing 5th $110,000). Meanwhile, Jonathan continued to stack up nicely with unwavering determination.

Poker Hand Analysis: Analyzing This Hand From 2024 PokerGo Cup

In this pivotal hand, Jonathan showcased astute decision-making and strategic prowess. Faced with a pre-flop raise from Zaki in the hijack, he opted for conservative approach to just call with Ace-King in the cutoff position, considering the deep-stacked nature of the tournament and Zaki’s aggressive image.

Davies, in the big blind with Ace-Nine, faced a decision with limited chips behind. With a decent but not premium hand, Davies opted to call and see a flop, hoping to catch a favorable board.

The flop 10s 7d 5d was dry with no significant connections for any player’s hand. With nothing on the flop, all players checked, acting with caution and a desire to see the turn without costing chips.

The turn Qd brought a slight improvement to Little’s hand, giving him the lead with a superior kicker. Despite this improvement, Little demonstrated caution and decided to check once again, preserving the pot’s size and maintaining the element of surprise in his betting patterns ahead.

Decisive River: Jonathan Little’s Strategic Triumph

The decisive moment came on the river with the arrival of the Kc, pairing Little’s king and solidifying his lead in the hand. Recognizing the strength of his hand and the potential vulnerability of his opponents, Little confidently fired out a massive bet of 150,000, applying pressure on his opponents probing for information about the strength of their hands and getting maximum value for his hand.

Facing Little’s big bet and with a dwindling stack, Davies found himself in a difficult spot with only ace-high. With little room for maneuver and facing the prospect of imminent elimination, Davies opted to move all-in, hoping to either induce a fold from Little or catch a favorable response at showdown.

Zaki, recognizing the strength of Little’s big bet and the precarious situation facing Davies, quickly folded his hand, conceding the pot to the aggressor.

Finally, Davies’s knockout in 5th place showcased the effectiveness of Little’s strategic brilliance throughout the hand. By blending patience, discipline, and timely aggression, Little played it with perfection, solidifying his status as a formidable force at the final table of PokerGo Cup’s final event.
