In our Poker Hand Analysis feature each week, we bring you a gripping hand. Today, we delve into a hand that occurred in Event #8: $25, 200 NLH, the final event of the PokerGo Cup this year.

This final event of the eight-tournament series drew 55 entries, collecting $1,375,000 in prize pool. Jonathan Little emerged as the champion of the tournament, banking a hefty $453,750 and lifting the PokerGO Cup leaderboard trophy in the process. With only five players left in this event, the intensity escalated, witnessing a few gripping hands involving Jonathan Little, Justin Zaki, and Seth Davies.

With 25,000/50,000 blinds and a 50,000 big blind ante, Jonathan faced a 120,000 raise from Zaki who held As 6s in the hijack and decided to only call holding Ac Kd in the cutoff. Seated in the big blind and left with only 190,000, Seth Davies called with his As 9s, leaving only 20,000 behind.

Flop: 10s 7d 5d

None of the players could connect on the flop and so they decided to check.

Turn: Qd

Once again, all three players checked, with Jonathan having the lead with the better kicker.

River: Kc

Improving to top pair and securing the check-mark, Jonathan fired out a bet of 150,000 after the check, forcing Davies to go all-in with just an ace-high hand. Left with a mere 20,000 behind, Davies was pretty committed and had little room for deliberation. Davies opted to call, while Zaki swiftly mucked his hand. As the cards were unveiled, Davies faced the unwelcome sight and bid farewell, finishing 5th $110,000). Meanwhile, Jonathan continued to stack up nicely with unwavering determination.

Poker Hand Analysis: Analyzing This Hand From 2024 PokerGo Cup

In this pivotal hand, Jonathan showcased astute decision-making and strategic prowess. Faced with a pre-flop raise from Zaki in the hijack, he opted for conservative approach to just call with Ace-King in the cutoff position, considering the deep-stacked nature of the tournament and Zaki’s aggressive image.

Davies, in the big blind with Ace-Nine, faced a decision with limited chips behind. With a decent but not premium hand, Davies opted to call and see a flop, hoping to catch a favorable board.

The flop 10s 7d 5d was dry with no significant connections for any player’s hand. With nothing on the flop, all players checked, acting with caution and a desire to see the turn without costing chips.

The turn Qd brought a slight improvement to Little’s hand, giving him the lead with a superior kicker. Despite this improvement, Little demonstrated caution and decided to check once again, preserving the pot’s size and maintaining the element of surprise in his betting patterns ahead.

Decisive River: Jonathan Little’s Strategic Triumph

The decisive moment came on the river with the arrival of the Kc, pairing Little’s king and solidifying his lead in the hand. Recognizing the strength of his hand and the potential vulnerability of his opponents, Little confidently fired out a massive bet of 150,000, applying pressure on his opponents probing for information about the strength of their hands and getting maximum value for his hand.

Facing Little’s big bet and with a dwindling stack, Davies found himself in a difficult spot with only ace-high. With little room for maneuver and facing the prospect of imminent elimination, Davies opted to move all-in, hoping to either induce a fold from Little or catch a favorable response at showdown.

Zaki, recognizing the strength of Little’s big bet and the precarious situation facing Davies, quickly folded his hand, conceding the pot to the aggressor.

Finally, Davies’s knockout in 5th place showcased the effectiveness of Little’s strategic brilliance throughout the hand. By blending patience, discipline, and timely aggression, Little played it with perfection, solidifying his status as a formidable force at the final table of PokerGo Cup’s final event.

Event #8: $25,200 No-Limit Hold’em Final Day Action

The final day for the last event of the series began with Riordan in the lead and Little fifth in chips among the final six players. PokerGO newcomer Shaneil Stokes (6th for $82,500) was the first to fall. His pocket sixes failed to hold up against the A-Q of Zaki, who had already overtaken the chip lead.

Little’s surge began when he scored a key double up through Zaki and then knocked out Seth Davies in fifth place ($110,000), dominating the A-9 of Davies with his A-K to whittle the field down to four. Not long after, Little moved into the lead after winning one more pot from Zaki. However, Zaki bounced back and eliminated Riordan in fourth place ($137,500 ) with his A-Q beating A-J of Riordan. A little later, it was Justin Saliba who fell in third place after running into the As Ad of Zaki with Ac 3h. With no help from the board,  Saliba was eliminated in third place ($192,500).

Heads-Up

The heads-up began with Little holding a chip lead of 4.8 million to Zaki’s 3.3 million. Little extended his chip lead quickly and gained a 3 to 1 advantage before the final hand. Finally, Little shoved the button with Ac 3c, and Zaki called all-in with his Kh 7h. The board ran out Ah 9d 7s Jc Jh where Little made aces and jacks to lock up the coveted pot and the PokerGo Cup championship title. Zaki, who had won Event No. 5 of this series, earned $288,750 as the runner-up. This was the fourth-largest score of his poker career.

The poker legend Daniel Negreanu was all praise for Little’s latest victory and congratulated him a via a post on Twitter.

In the penultimate event of the PokerGo Cup series, Event #7: $15,100 No-Limit Hold’em, it was David Peters who stole the show, surviving a marathon three-handed session against Brock Wilson and Kristen Foxen, and eventually clinching his second title of the 2024 PokerGO Cup and the $315,000.

The final day saw three quick eliminations with Morten Klein’s A-J falling to Brock Wilson’s pocket queens in sixth place for $57,750. Seth Davies’s 5-4 then lost to Daniel Smiljkovic’s 10-9 and he was busted in fifth place for $78,750. Up next, Smiljkovic’s A-Q could not beat Wilson’s pocket fours and the German went out in fourth place for $105,000.

During the three-handed play, the chips began to fly back and forth. Wilson started with the chip lead but quickly lost it to Foxen. Two hands later, Foxen saw her chip lead go to Peters. She had come down to just over 20 big blinds but then she doubled through Brock Wilson with her jacks prevailing against Wilson’s pocket nines. The Canadian poker pro continued her double streak, scoring another double with her pocket tens surviving against Peter’s A-Q. However, her momentum was short-lived as Peters regained the chip lead and further extended it by eliminating Wilson in third for $141,750.

Heads-up play was a short-live affair. It did not take long for Peters to seal the victory. On the final hand, he held A-4  and flopped a pair of aces against Foxen’s J-10. Foxen needed runner-runner to survive. However, the turn bricked and she headed to the cage to collect the $204,750 second-place prize.

David Coleman Stages A Remarkable Comeback To Win Event #6: $15,100 No-Limit Hold’em

David Coleman etched his name as the sixth champion in the PokerGo Cup 2024, beating a field of 63 entries in Event #6: $15,100 No-Limit Hold’em. His stack dwindled to just 2 BB during the four-handed play, but the New Jersey native staged an impressive comeback. He doubled four consecutive times, securing the title and $302,400 top prize. This marked his third PTG title in 2024, propelling him to the top of the 2024 PokerGo Cup leaderboard race.

The momentum shifted during the four-handed play with Seth Davies doubling through DeStefano and then taking a major chunk of Coleman’s stack to drop him to just two-big blinds. However, Coleman bounced back, scoring three consecutive doubles. The first double up took him to 8 big blinds when he turned a flush with 8-7 against DeStefano’s A-9. In his penultimate double, he shoved with K-9 and ran into DeStefano’s pocket kings. The board gave him a straight to crack kings and win the pot. His double stream continued. He moved all-in after Brinkenhoff’s flop bet. Brinkenhoff mucked his cards and Coleman got his third double up during the four-handed play.

A hand later, Brinkenhoff was eliminated when he shoved his last 7 big blinds with J-8 against DeStefano’s A-K. Brinkenhoff flopped a pair of jacks, but the board ran out a wheel, busting him in fourth place for $94,500. On the next hand, Davies shoved his last 12 big blinds with K-J and Coleman called with A-4. Again, the board ran out a wheel and Davies exited in third place for $132,300.

Heads-Up

The heads-up began with DeStefano holding 4,100,000 to Coleman’s 3,775,000. It didn’t take long for Coleman to edge into the lead on the very first hand. He then won a hand with pocket aces. Finally, it was all over with DeStefano moving all-in with 6-5 against Coleman’s Jd-4d. Coleman hit flush on the turn, locking up the coveted pot and title. DeStefano was awarded $189,000 as the runner-up finisher.

Featuring a buy-in of $15,100, Event #6 saw a prize pool of $945,000. The top 9 won money with a min-cash of $28,350. Nick Schulman (9th) and Sam Soverel (8th) cashed before the final table began.
