True, a single hand can change the entire trajectory of a poker tournament, and Rania Nasreddine’s epic hero call in the last level on Day 4 of the Poker Stars 2024 EPT Barcelona Main Event is one such moment.

Fresh off from her EPT Monte Carlo Main Event final table, Nasreddine was on the verge of elimination. After running her queens into Lin’s aces, her stack dipped to over 200k, leaving her in a precarious position. But she flopped a set of nines to double off Pablo Beltran and then hero-called Chung with the second pair to double up again, securing her spot among the top 10 stacks to end Day 4.

As mentioned, this had occurred during the final level of Day 4. With blinds at 10,000/25,000 (25,000 ante), Timothy Chung, seated in the hijack, raised to 50,000. Nasreddine defended her big blind.

The flop came down K♥ 6♥ 9♠ and saw Chung fire a hefty bet of 105,000. Nasreddine, holding second pair with her 10♦9♦, had a tough decision to make. Folding would keep her tournament life intact but leave her stack severely crippled. Considering that her hand could be good, despite the high card on the flop, she decided to call.

The 4♠ landed on the turn and Chung’s aggression intensified. This time, he fired a bigger bet of 300,000, continuing to apply pressure. Despite not hitting anything on the turn, Nasreddine called once again, perhaps thinking that Chung might be over-representing his holding. The river delivered the 2♣, and Chung moved all-in for over 585,000, putting Nasreddine’s tournament life on the line.

With everything at stake, Nasreddine went into the tank, contemplating the toughest call of the ongoing tournament. Could her second pair really be good against Chung’s aggressive line? After a tense moment, she made the call, showing 10♦9♦. Chung turned over J♦6♦ for the third pair, sixes.

Nasreddine’s hero call on the river not only kept her alive but also catapulted her stack to over 2,000,000, placing her among the top 10 chip stack among 40 survivors by the end of the day.

With newfound momentum, Nasreddine started Day 5 with a bang, eliminating Piero Alioto when her pocket jacks dominated his pocket nines. She followed that up by busting UK’s Jack Sinclair place and Greece’s Panagiotis Mavritsakis, ultimately ending the day as chip leader among the final 16 players.

Currently, Day 6 of the 2024 EPT Barcelona Main Event is underway. At the time of writing, only 14 players remain in the tournament, and Nasreddine holds the second-largest stack. While each of the remaining 14 is guaranteed at least €74,600, all eyes are on the first-place prize of €1,512,000. Could Rania Nasreddine go all the way to clinch her first-ever EPT Main Event title? Given her ongoing form and momentum, she is certainly a favorite to watch. We wish her all the best for the main event!

In our Poker Hand Analysis feature every week, we feature a thrilling hand from the live poker scene. Today, we are featuring an epic hand from the recent 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Event #71: $10,000 LADIES Championship No-Limit Hold’em, which was ultimately won by Japan’s Shiina Okamoto who defeated WPT Global Ambassador and two-time WSOP Circuit ring winner Jamie Kerstetter in heads-up to claim a career-best $171,732 and her maiden WSOP bracelet.

This hand occurred during level 27 with blinds running 40k-80k and ante 80k. This involved Jamie Kerstetter and Israel’s Mor Kamber who ultimately finished fifth for $43,125. Kerstetter raised to 160,000 with A♦ 10♣ and Kamber with J♦ 7♦ made the call from the big blind.

The flop 10♦ 5♦ 4♦  saw Kamber check and Kerstetter bet 90K. Kamber check-raised to 600,000 and Kerstetter four-bet to 1,500,000, forcing Kamber to go all in. Kamber thought for a while and called.

Kamber hit a flush on the flop and was ahead of Kerstetter, who had the ace high flush draw.

Turn: 6♦

The 6♦ appeared on the turn and turned the tide in favor of Kerstetter, giving her ace-high flush.

River: 9♥

With the 9♥ landing on the river, Kamber’s dream for the bracelet was dashed and she was eliminated in 5th place, losing her chips to beloved poker player Kerstetter who eventually finished runner-up for $114,479.

Hand Analysis and Breakdown

Pre-Flop Action:

Kerstetter’s Raise:  A♦ 10♣  is a strong starting hand especially in the late stage of the tournament, Kerstetter’s raise was a strategic one. She was hoping to make top pairs, straight and even the flush. By raising 160k, Kerstetter wanted to take control of the pot, applying pressure on the blinds and  narrowing the field to just one or two opponents, where her hand could fare better and give her the desired value.

Kamber’s Call: J♦ 7♦ was not strong enough but had some playability with a potential to make flush, straight, and two pairs. This probably led Kamber to make the call. Playing from the big blind, she wanted to see a flop, hoping to hit a strong draw or combination, given the favorable pot odds.

Flop Action

Kamber’s Check: The flop opened 10♦ 5♦ 4♦ where she decided to induce a bet from Kerstetter. By checking, she was potentially looking to build the pot after a bet from Kerstetter and set up a check-raise option.

Kerstetter’s Bet: With the ace-high flush draw on the flop, Kerstetter decided to bet 90k to probably extract value from a weaker hand or potentially take down the pot if Kamber folds. It also opened the possibility of building a big pot if her draw hits.

Kamber’s Check-Raise: Kamber had already hit a flush and decided to check-raise to 600k, probably to protect her hand against higher diamonds that could complete a higher flush and build the pot while she’s ahead.

Kerstetter’s Four-Bet: With top pair and an ace-high flush draw, Kerstetter four-bet to represent strength and pressure Kamber, potentially forcing folds.

Kamber’s All-In Move: With a flush that was vulnerable to a higher flush, Kamber decided to call, committing her stack with her current strong hand but recognizing the risk of a higher flush draw.

Kerstetter took her time but made a bold move, calling with an ace-high flush draw in hope of improving to a flush draw or potentially taking it down with two pairs or top pair in the end.

Turn: 6♦

The 6♦ landed on the turn, giving Kerstetter the higher flush draw with A♦ 10♣.

River: 9♥

The 9♥ changed nothing on the river and Kerstetter’s ace-high flush remains the best hand, winning her the coveted pot to chip up and bust her opponent from the final table of the ladies event.

Conclusion

This hand displays strategic aggression from both players. Kerstetter leveraged her strong draw to apply pressure and build the pot, ultimately hitting her outs to win. Kamber played her strong but vulnerable hand aggressively, understanding the risks but also recognizing the need to protect her equity. This hand highlights the importance of aggressive play, especially in the late stages of a tournament. It also showcases the volatility and excitement present in tournament poker.

In our Poker Hand Analysis feature, we bring you a thrilling hand every week. Today, we delve into a hand that recently occurred at the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the final table of Event #5: $1,000 Mystery Millions, which was ultimately won by Australia’s Malcolm Trayner. The Sydney resident became the first Australian to win a bracelet at this year’s WSOP, dominating the final table of the $1K Mystery Millions event to claim the US$1 million top prize and his career-first gold bracelet.

The final table of the $1K Mystery Millions witnessed several big hands, including one that involved Christopher Castellan and Eugene Tito, who ultimately finished third, taking home a hefty $407,970.

With blinds running 2,500,000/5,000,000 and 5,000,000 ante during level 44, Christopher Castellan raised to 12,000,000 from middle position. With a strong hand of Ace-Queen offsuit (Ad Qh), Castellan aimed to apply pressure and potentially pick up the blinds and ante. Ace-Queen is a solid starting hand, often worth a raise from this position to either win the pot or to build it up if called.

Eugene Tito:  As Ah

Christopher Castellan:  Ad Qh

The action folded around to Eugene Tito in the small blind, who quickly moved all-in for his remaining 36,000,000 chips. Tito held pocket Aces (As Ah), the strongest starting hand in Texas Hold’em poker. Given his stack size relative to the blinds, Tito’s all-in was a standard and powerful move. He aimed to maximize his double-up potential and ladder up his chance to win the US$1 million top prize money.

Flop: 6d 8c Kc

The flop was safe for Tito’s pocket Aces. The King on the  flop could have been concerning if Castellan had a King, but since Castellan held Ace-Queen, Tito’s hand was still far ahead. Castellan’s hand didn’t improve on the flop, but he still had potential outs with a backdoor straight draw.

Turn: 10h

The turn gave Castellan some hope to a straight (a Jack would complete his straight). However, Tito’s Aces were still in the lead. The turn added some suspense, increasing the potential for a dramatic river card.

River: 6c

The river 6c did pair the board but did not improve Castellan’s hand. Tito’s Aces held up, and he successfully avoided Castellan’s potential outs, doubling up his stack to survive on the final table.

Hand Analysis:

Eugene Tito’s pre-flop all-in was a well-calculated and powerful move with pocket Aces. He wanted to extract maximum value through the strongest starting hand. Castellan made a reasonable call with  Ace-Queen, given the pot odds and his own hand strength. Castellan’s initial raise was standard from his position, aiming to capitalize on his strong starting hand and putting pressure on his opponents.

The flop and turn were a bit tense with potential outs for Castellan, but Tito’s dominant hand held through the river. Castellan’s call, while risky, was understandable due to the strength of Ace-Queen in many situations. Ultimately, Tito’s stronger hand and aggressive play earned him a crucial double-up, keeping him in contention at the final table and in the race to win the the US$1 million top prize, though he ultimately missed out on the US$1 million prize, falling in third place for $407,970.

Double A vs. Sergio Aido: A Thrilling Poker Hand From Bally Live https://pokerpronews.com/double-a-vs-sergio-aido-a-thrilling-poker-hand-from-bally-live/ Thu, 25 Apr 2024 15:06:17 +0000 https://pokerpronews.com/?p=7043 In our Poker Hand Analysis feature, we bring you a thrilling hand every week. In our Poker Hand Analysis feature, we bring you a thrilling hand every week. Today, we delve into a hand that was recently live-streamed on Bally Live Poker’s YouTube channel around two weeks ago.

With the blinds of $50/$100 and a $100 big blind ante, the action began with Sergio Aido ($22.6k) who raised it up to $300 from UTG with 9c 8c. Double A from the button was in position and he decided to three-bet to $1k with Ad 9d. The rest of the players opted to fold but Sergio called to see the flop.

Flop 9s 5d 4d: Both Players Hit Top Pair

While the flop gave both players top pair, Double A’s hand with the superior kicker was a huge favourite to prevail. Sergio, first to act post flop, checked it to his opponent, who fired a bet of $1,000. Sergio decided to match the bet and both players went to the turn with  $4.3k already in the middle.

Turn 8s Moves Sergio Into Lead.. Will A Lucky River Save Double A?

The turn 8s turned it in favour of Sergio as he moved ahead with two pairs on the turn. He made a smart move and checked once again. Instead of checking back, his opponent boldly placed a large bet of $4.3k. Sergio wanted to maximize value and so he responded with an all-in move. After careful consideration, Double A made the  call and saw the bad news when his opponent turned over 9c 8c for two pairs. The river 10s did not help Double and Sergio Aido claimed the huge $45.5k pot.

Hand Analysis/Review

This hand in poker showcases the importance of position, hand reading, and strategic aggression. Pre-flop, Sergio opens the betting from UTG with a raise to $300. Despite having a speculative hand, Sergio chooses to raise to potentially steal the blinds or build a pot with a disguised hand. Double A on the button recognizes the aggression from Sergio and decides to capitalize on his positional advantage by three-betting to $1,000.

With a stronger hand and positional advantage, Double A aims to reduce his opponents and potentially take control of the hand post-flop. Sergio, facing the 3-bet, opts to call, considering the possibility to hit a favorable board or outplay Double A post-flop.

On the flop, both players hit top pair, but with Double A holding superior kicker, he takes the lead and bets $1k. Sergio, recognizing the strength of his top pair with a weaker kicker, chooses to call, hoping to improve on later streets.

The game changes when the turn brings a fortunate 8s for Sergio, granting him two pairs and shifting the momentum in his favor. Sergio wisely checks, inducing Double A to continue betting with his top pair and possibly weaker holdings. Seizing the opportunity to maximize value, Sergio shoves all-in, being confident in the strength of his hand and aiming to capitalize on Double A’s potential range of weaker hands. Finally, Double A’s move to call reflects the uncertainty of the situation, hoping his top pair and better kicker will hold up. Unfortunately, Sergio’s top two pairs prevail, securing him the coveted pot.

In our Free Poker Hand Analysis feature, we pick up some thrilling hands from live poker events happening across the world. In our latest feature, we are featuring an insane cooler that happened during Friday Night Poker Stream at Dusk Till Dawn. The action unfolding intense hand analysis and strategy breakdowns was live-streamed on Dusk Till Dawn’s YouTube Channel on March 22, 2024.

During this Friday Night stream at UK-based casino Dusk Till Dawn, it was an epic showdown that left the viewers heart pounding. In this electrifying encounter, the stage was set with £10/£25/£50 blinds.

Losing on the river is never a good feeling and Stato must be cursing his opponent after losing with Aces on the river. The hand began with Jonathon “Skalie” Kalmar (£4.7k) making a move from the high-jack, raising to £300 with the powerful cowboys, Kh Kc. Stato (£5.6k) from the small blind looked down at his As Ad and responded with a 3-bet to £1,000, setting the way for an intense showdown.

In a bold move, Skalie then moved all-in for his remaining £3,700, putting him in jeopardy and risking it all. With no hesitation, Stato snapped and was a favorite to win the hand and claim the £9.6k pot.

Aces Vs Kings: Insane Cooler Ahead

Stato’s Aces were favorites on the 10d, 3d 6c flop and he was in good shape to win the pot. However, as it sometimes happens in poker, the rest of the streets unfolded in dramatic fashion.  The turn came as the 4c, narrowing Skalie’s options to just two outs. However, the climax came with the river card as the Ks landed on the ugly river. It was a moment of sheer disbelief for Stato and his rail, bringing an unexpected twist and leaving Stato’s heart pounding. Check out the video to watch the hand.

Free Poker Hand Analysis

When pocket aces go against pocket kings preflop, aces have around an 81 percent chance of winning. Given his hand strength and position, Stato’s decision to 3-bet with pocket Aces was a standard play. Skalie also held a premium hand, so his bold move for all-in with pocket Kings was not a bad idea as he was looking to capitalize on Stato’s aggressive play. His move ultimately paid off handsomely.

Despite being a huge favorite pre-flop and even on the flop, Stato’s Aces faced a big blow on the river, showcasing  the inherent variance in poker and the importance of remaining cool and calm in the face of adversity. Stato played well but lost it on the river in an insane cooler. Hard luck for him!
