Top female pro Kristen Foxen narrowly missed making history at the 55th Annual World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event in Las Vegas. A fan-favourite for winning this year’s Main Event, Foxen had her sights set on becoming the second woman to reach the final table of the $10,000 buy-in NLHE World Championship, but she got eliminated in 13th place, earning an impressive $600k.

Kristen Foxen’s Bold River Move Ends Her Dream Run

Foxen entered Day 8 in the middle of the pack but took the Chip lead for some time. It didn’t last longer after she lost some of her stack in a Multi-way pot against Joe Serock, Brian Kim, and Niklas Astedt. She again lost her stack against Short-stacked Diogo Coelho.

In her final hand of the tournament, Joe Serock opened from under the gun with A♤-K♧, and Foxen called it with K♤-Q◇. The board came out A♡-K♡-J♤, giving Serock the top two pairs. Serock bet 4 Million, Foxen thought for a second and called the bet. The turn card was 5♤, and Serock bet 11.6 Million. Foxen took 3 minutes before putting all her Chip stacks on the line, hoping for a 10 to hit a straight to save her day. The river card was 6♡, ending Foxen’s deep run in the tournament.  She walked away with $600,000 for a remarkable deep run in the main event. This marked her best score and overall tenth cash at the ongoing WSOP 2024.

On Day 7, Foxen went all-in with A♤-5♤ against Moura’s Q◇-Q♧, but the river card A saved her. She did the same for this hand, but this time the river did not help,  ending her dream run in 13th place.  The four-time bracelet winner Foxen fell short of becoming the second woman to reach the final table of WSOP Main Event After Barbara Enright who had finished in 5th place in 1995’s WSOP Main Event.

WSOP 2024 Main Event Final Table Players and Chip Counts

The record-breaking 2024 WSOP Main Event is now close to crowning its champion with just 9 players from the original 10,112-player field remaining. Each of the remaining competitors secures a minimum of $1,000,000, but all will be aiming for the massive $10,000,000 first-place prize and stunning new main event bracelet.

Leading the remaining 9 players in the main event is Illinois native Jordan Griff, who had just $47,192 in live earnings heading into poker’s biggest event and has now locked up at least  $1,000,000. Griff was all in on the first hand of the day against a flopped set but managed to river a bigger set to chip up. Griff will have to face a tough competition with two of poker’s most accomplished players, American high roller regular Brian Kim and Swedish online poker legend Niklas Astedt still in contention. Both of them bagged impressive stacks with over 50 big blinds.

Although the world of poker has a comparatively fewer number of female players, the ones in the business are no way less talented compared to their male counterparts. The female poker pros have been consistently rubbing shoulders with the male pros and succeeding at the game.

One report that highlights the achievements of female poker pros worldwide is the Global Poker Index ranking for females. The GPI Female Ranking gives detailed insights into how female players are fairing in poker’s competitive landscape, highlighting their skill, commitment, and contributions to the poker community.

Held at the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino, the inaugural PGT Kickoff series concluded with its final tournament,  Event #5: $10,100 No-Limit Hold’em, crowning a winner in Kristen Foxen

The fifth and final event of the series drew in 50 entrants who played down to the final six players. The final table began with Daniel Negreanu (2,515,000) in the lead. Kristen Foxen (870,000) was in the middle of the pack, but she quickly gained control and finally seized the coveted title and the $165,000 first prize.

Unsurprisingly, Japan’s Masashi Oya, who began the final table with just seven big blinds, was the first causality exiting in sixth place for $30,000 without much of a fuss. Kristen, who had already worked her way up to second in chips, solidified her position further when she railed her husband, Alex Foxen in fifth place for $40,000. She held pocket queens and flopped a set against Alex’s pocket aces to win the pot.

However, Kristen’s lead was short lived as Negreanu picked up pocket tens against Aram Zobian’s king-queen. Zobian needed a king or a queen to survive the final table, but the board ran out ace-high, eliminating Zobian in fourth place for $50,000. Kristen moved into the lead again when she flopped a set of nines against short stack Samuel Laskowitz who had a flopped flush draw. All the chips got in on the flop. The turn and river bricked out, and Laskowitz was eliminated in third place for $70,000.

Heads-Up

Kristen began the heads-up with a million chip lead over Negreanu, who had a roller coaster ride, before three monumental hands going Kristen’s way. Negreanu battled his way back but two river calls costed him in the end. The final hand saw Negreanu get his last 450,000 in from the big blind holding king-nine. He looked in good shape for the double when Foxen turned over her jack-six.

However, a jack on the flop dashed Negreanu’s hopes. Despite a straight draw, Negreanu was left with just a pair of nines by the river. His run ended in second place for $105,000 and Kristen took down the final PGT Kickoff event, taking home an impressive $165,000 in the first-place prize. This was Kristen’s second career PGT title and 12th career victory overall, according to the HendonMob

The win marked Kristen’s second cash of the 2024 PGT season after her third-place finish in Event #3. She earned 330 points to move to the second spot on the leaderboard, 161 points shy of David Coleman, who secured four final table finishes (including two victories) during the PGT Kickoff Series.

The final event of the PGT Kickoff series had a $10,000 buy-in and saw 50 entrants make their way into the PokerGO Studio, building a prize pool of $500,000 that was shared by the top 8 finishers. Jim Collopy was the unfortunate money bubble whose rivered flush lost to the full house of Zobian.
