German poker professional Oliver Weis, widely known online as “sk2ll_m0dR,” has added another impressive victory to his already solid poker resume, claiming the 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus Main Event title. This latest triumph is Weis’s third live title of the year, bringing his total live tournament earnings to an impressive $3,154,254. His win at the EPT Cyprus main event also earns him a substantial $1,030,000 prize, along with the coveted Golden Shard trophy.

Weis’s 2024 journey has been nothing short of remarkable. He began the year with a bang by taking down the €10,300 High Roller at EPT Paris for $1,050,978. He followed that up by an online bracelet win in the $5,000 Short Deck Championship, and a victory at Poker Dream 12 – Jeju. Now, his EPT Cyprus Main Event win cements his status as a top contender in the global poker scene.

The Poker Stars 2024 European Poker Tour (EPT) Cyprus Main Event drew an impressive 1,284 entries, each paying a $5,300 buy-in and building a prize pool of over $6.2 million. After five days of intense competition, the event’s field whittled down to final six players, who included the likes of former GGPoker and PokerStars Team Pro Mikhail Shalamov, EPT regular Anton Wigg, and CoinPoker’s Community Manager and Day 3 chip leader Bobby James. Also at the table were local favorite Georgios Tsouloftas, Day 5 leader Oliver Weis, and Ukrainian pro Andriy Lyubovetskiy.

Sweden’s Anton Wigg was the first to be eliminated in sixth place on the final day after his pocket tens failed to hold against Shalamov’s ace-king. He was followed by Day 3 Chi leader Bobby James, who lost with  Qh Kd  to  the Ah Js of Tsouloftas.  The next elimination was scored by Oliver Weis. The German pro held 7h 10h against Lyubovetskiy’s Ad 2s and won it with a pair of tens to bust his opponent in third place.

Georgios Tsouloftas then eliminated Russia’s Mikhail Shalamov, taking a 3:1 chip lead into heads-up play. However, the tides turned when Weis doubled up after a bold ace-high river call by Tsouloftas.

Weis  was a big stack through a major part of EPT Cyprus Main. He entered the final day with the overwhelming chip lead. But it was not smooth sailing for the eventual champion as he had to battle it back from a 5:1 chip deficit in heads-up play to overcome the aggressive and unpredictable  local pro Georgios Tsouloftas. On the final hand of the tournament, Oliver Weis limped in from the button and Georgios Tsouloftas moved all in for 4,100,000 holding Kh 2c. Weis asked for a count before calling with Qh 7h. The board ran out 7s 4d 3s 5s 5h, giving Weis the coveted pot and title.

For his latest main event victory, Weis took home the Golden Shard trophy and a winner’s prize of $1,030,000, thus boosting his live tournament earnings to an impressive $3,154,254.

India’s Santhosh Suvarna Runs Deep Finishing 21st for $31,940

India’s Santosh Suvarna also made waves, finishing 21st for $31,940. In spite of starting Day 4 as a short stack, Suvarna went deep, earning his third cash at EPT Cyprus, following his previous fifth-place in the $10,200 Mystery Bounty for $34,600 and a seventh place in the $15,200 NLHE Turbo Knockout Freezeout for $27,000.  The latest finish in the main event has pushed his live earnings past the $14.50 million mark, placing him at #82 on poker’s all-time money list with  $14,518,205 in earnings.

EPT Cyprus Main Event Final Table Results

1. Oliver Weis $1,030,000

2. Georgios Tsouloftas $642,300

3. Mikhail Shalamov $459,000

4. Andriy Lyubovetskiy $353,100

5. Bobby James $271,400

This Sunday marked the conclusion of the highly successful 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona at the iconic Casino Barcelona. The prestigious live festival concluded with an epic Main Event victory for Stephen Song. Hours after Song was crowned as the newest EPT Barcelona Main Event champion, the final table of €10,000 EPT High Roller was still going on with some of the best players battling for one of the most coveted titles of the festival.

Fresh off his first bracelet win at WSOP 2024, Watson was already having a good series. Following several close finishes, including a third-place finish in the €25,000 No-Limit Hold’em I, a runner-up in the €5,200 8-Game, and sixth in the €10,200 Pot-Limit Omaha, he finally claimed the first title of the recent series with a first-place finish in the €10,000 EPT High Roller. He overcame a field of 431 entries and bested Enrico Camosci heads up to take home €595,000.

The tournament ended in an ICM chop with Camosci banking the largest prize of €734,900 from the massive €4,180,700 prize pool. While Camosci secured the top payout, Watson capped off his incredible run at the festival with an impressive over €850,000 in total winnings.

Watson overcame a tough final table featuring partypoker €2,200 Nordic Poker Championship winner and last year’s EPT Prague Main Event runner-up Jon Kyte and the current GPI ranking topper Jesse Lonis. Eventually, he clashed with Camosci in the heads-up with the latter holding a commanding 4:1 chip lead over Watson. Before the final duel began, the two struck a deal that guaranteed Camosci the largest prize but left €20,000, the title and the trophy for the winner.

Following a back-and-forth battle, Watson won a big pot with his king-queen besting Camosci’s ace-jack, leaving the Italian with just five big blinds. On the final hand, Watson shoved his ace-jack from the button and Camosci called for his last 2 million with seven-three. Following a queen-high flop, a seven landed on the turn giving Camosci the lead but then a jack on the river sealed victory for Watson.

This tournament ran over the course of three days and  generated €4,180,700 in prize pool. The top 63 players were paid out, with Niall Farrell (31st for €25,150), Sam Greenwood (55th for €19,000), Mark Teltscher (62nd for €17,300), Boris Angelov (11th for €72,800), and poker legend Erik Seidel (20th for €38,200) being some notables among them.

Also taking place on the final day of the 2024 European Poker Tour Barcelona was the the €10,200 No-Limit Hold’em event, which played out in the Pau Cassals room at Casino Barcelona where  Slovakia’s Eric Bauer pulled off thrilling comeback to claim his first EPT title and career-best €151,400.

Bauer started the final table with a short stack and was on the brink of elimination at one point. However, he fought back and made it to the heads-up against  Canada’s Dongwoo Ko with stacks being nearly even. Following a back-and-forth battle, he pulled ahead before the final hand, which was a nail biter. Bauer shoved holding queen-nine against the king-ten of Ko. The board ran out Qs Jd 3c Js, sealing victory for Bauer. Unfortunately, Ko had to settle for the runner-up prize of €100,100.

The €10,200 No-Limit Hold’em drew 48 entries and generated €465,600 in prize pool, which was shared by the top seven finishers. A total of 16 players returned to the felts for the final day’s play, with PokerStars Team Pro Maria Konnikova becoming one of the early eliminations of the day.

Three years after kicking off her tournament journey, Spain’s Soraya Estrada aka ‘Sory’ has secured her first victory. She overcame a field of 84 entries in  the €550 No Limit Hold’em Women’s Event at PokerStars 2024 EPT Barcelona series, walking away with a PokerStars Spade trophy and a cash prize of €11,350.

Soraya Estrada, who began her live poker career in 2021, has been leveling up her poker career with several deep runs through the World Series of Poker and European Poker Tour.

The Spanish poker pro scored a 5th place finish in the 2023 Estrellas Madrid Main Event, collecting €35,010. She also came close to securing her first WSOP ring in this year’s WSOP Circuit Cannes Mini Main Event but busted out in 6th place to collect €6,860. She then followed that up with another sixth place finish for € 4,400 in the EPT Monte Carlo Hyper Turbo Knockout.

Earlier this year, Soraya Estrada also qualified for the 2024 ESPT Madrid through the PokerStars Power Path qualification round. Now she is a proud EPT champion!

2024 EPT Barcelona Event #51: €550 Women’s Event Recap

The €550 No-Limit Hold’em Women’s Event drew over 84 (62 unique) players, building up a total prize pool of €40,320. Only the top 11 finishers received a payout.

The second and final day began with 11 players. Although each of them was guaranteed  a minimum payout of €1,010, they were all aiming for the € 11,350 first-place prize.

At the beginning of the final day, Soraya Estrada held a middling stack but knocked out her fellow Spanish player Mariona Canals on the final table bubble, starting the final table second in chips. She held a dominating Ace-Jack, which crushed ten-seven of her fellow Spanish pro.

Hong Kong’s Joycelyn Lam Ho Yin was a dominating force at the final table. She cleared over half of the final table. Lam Ho Yin knocked out Joy Walday (8th – €1,570), Anna Gulevich (7th – €1,970), Maria Ortiz (5th – €3,100), and Maria Lampropulos (4th – €4,030). Going into the three-handed play, Lam Ho Yin held the massive chip lead, which was hard to overcome.

However, Soraya Estrada climbed up the ladder by eliminating Olga Iermolcheva in 3rd place for €5,230. She shoved the button with ace-ten and was snap-called by the shorter stack Iermolcheva who held pocket kings. With an ace falling on the board, Iermolcheva’s run came to an end in third place.

Joycelyn Lam Ho Yin started the heads-up with the chip lead but it didn’t take long for Estrada to close the gap and snatch the lead. On the final hand of the tournament, Lam Ho Yin shoved the last of her chips with 8h-8d, and Estrada called the all-in with Kh-10d. The board ran out 10c-7d-5s-Kd, and Estrada hit two pairs. Lam Ho Yin bowed out in 2nd place, banking €7,330.

Recent months have been disastrous for the poker fraternity as everyone is debating over whether a player should use any type of Real Time Assistance (RTA) on the rail, even if there aren’t any rules stopping everyone from using RTA. Although WSOP hasn’t responded to this, PokerStars’s European Poker Tour has announced a ban on Solvers at the EPT Tournament Area.

This debate started after Jonathan Tamayo’s victory at the 2024 World Series of Poker Championship Main Event. Tamayo’s team — Dominik Nitsche and Joe McKeehen — allegedly used RTA on the rail, giving an unfair advantage to Tamayo. This sparked a series of debates among the poker community, as well as pros.

There is no strong response from WSOP to the controversy, but EPT has announced a ban on solvers in the tournament room area. Along with that, PokerStars announced several new rules that players are obliged to abide by.

Solvers Ban in EPT Tournament Area

To secure the integrity of the game, EPT has announced a ban on GTO Solvers/chars or anything similar in the touranment area at any time. As per the new rule, players are not allowed to use any GTO Solvers software, GTO Charts, or any AI tool in the tournament room area. The rule not only applies to players but also to spectators.

The EPT still permitted electronic devices in the poker room area. Players may use devices like phones, tablets, and laptops. But they can’t use them while playing a hand. Besides that, EPT has prohibited players from broadcasting the tournament while playing.

Toby Stone, the Tournament Director for the EPT, addressed the issue with police solvers in a big tournament. Enforcing the rule is also very challenging. “We’ve got cameras, but we can’t be zooming in on people’s phones to check that they’re not using any solvers,” Toby Stone commented.

Stone added the rule is easy to enforce in the important stages of the tournament, such as the final table or on the final day. So, it is easy to look at them if they are running over to the rail to look at an electronic device.

Shot Clocks in the European Poker Tour

There is also a chance in shot clocks. Players will now have 15 seconds to act in a hand, instead of 30 seconds. Time banks will still be worth 30 seconds each. Stone says that players can expect more short clocks in the future.

Boris Angelov continues his streak. Fresh off his 5th place finish in the 2024 World Series of Poker Main Event, he claimed his first trophy of this year in the PokerStars 2024 EPT Barcelona €10,200 Mystery Bounty event.

Earlier this year, Angelov made a runner-up finish in the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event, securing a six-figure sum of $663,565. In the €10,200 Mystery Bounty Event, Boris Angelov defeated Ren Lin in the heads-up battle, collecting €110,400 and an additional bounty of €75,000. After the latest EPT win, he has now $3,526,690 in live tournament earnings.

India’s Santhosh Suvarna Finishes 10th for €10,200

A total of 88 players gathered inside Casino Barcelona, generating a total prize pool of €413,600, shared among the top 13 players. Indian poker pro Santhosh Suvarna, who finished 3rd in PokerStars Cuatro Knockout (Event #9), busted out as the final table bubble, earning €10,200. With two cash finishes in the series, Suvarna’s earnings from the series now soar to €88,100. Here is a recap of the €10,200 final table.

€10,200 Mystery Bounty Final Table Recap and Standings

39 players advanced to the final day 2, with 13 new players joining the action. Boris Angelov began the final table as the chip leader and knocked out Paul Lagan in 9th place. Paul Lagan walked away with €12,800. Thomas Haverstad soon followed Lagan to the rail for 8th place, earning €16,000.

The Young Gun Boris Angelov’s next casualty was the Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel. Angelov eliminated Erik Seidel in 7th place for €20,000. Thomas Lee left with a few big blinds and moved all in with A-J, only to be called by Ren Lin, who held A-K. Thomas Lee received €25,000 for his 6th place finish.

Cristian David put the last of his stack into the middle with A-J. Sam Greenwood, from the small blind, called the all-in with his K-9. The board ran out K-5-4-9-J, ending David’s deep run in 5th place (€31,300).

Sam Greenwood bowed out in 4th place after his J-5 ran into Ren Lin’s A-Q. Greenwood received €39,100 for his 4th place exit. Sondre Suavnevik just had 5 BBs in hand, so he moved all-in to save his tournament life with Q-8. Ren Lin called it with his K-9. Lin hit a top pair in the flop, taking the lead and eliminating Suvanevik in 3rd for €50,800.

On the first hand of the heads-up, Ren Lin took the chip lead and extended it further with a 7:1 lead against Boris Angelov. Angelov didn’t fall back. He soon reversed the role — unlike Angelov — Lin couldn’t reverse the role.

In a post-flop action, Boris Angelov limped with 10-2, and Ren Lin checked with 9-8. The flop came out 9-7-10, giving Angelov a top pair and Ren Lin having a straight draw. Both the turn card and the river card were revealed to be 3. Angelov already hit a top pair, so he put Ren Lin all in, and Lin called only to see his lesser two pairs. Ren Lin earned €71,200 for his runner-up finish and a bounty of €37,500.

After two years, Steve O’Dwyer clinched another European Poker Tour trophy by winning  €12,300 PokerStars Cuatro Knockout. The win came in the early morning, as O’Dwyer defeated bracelet winner Byron Kaverman in a short heads-up, collecting the top prize of €163,720 and a bounty of €48,000.

Fresh off his WSOP 2024 Super High Roller victory, India’s Santhosh Suvarna ran deep and finished 3rd in the Cuatro Knockout tournament, earning €77,900. He also received a bounty pot of €48,000, as he eliminated four players. With this victory, Suvarna exceeded the $14 million mark in live earnings, cementing his 1st position in India’s all-time money list.

As PokerStars celebrates the 20th anniversary of the European Poker Tour, the €12,300 Cuatro Knockout event attracted big name players from the fraternity, The 62 entries in this event created a prize pool of €537,120. The prize pool was finally shared by the top 8 players, and the bounty came into play when only 16 players remained.

Several poker pros made deep runs but couldn’t finish in the top 8, including PokerStars Team pros Sam Grafton and Elias Gutierrez. Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel also participated in the event but exited early. Here is the final table recap of PokerStars Cuatro Knockout.

€12,300 Cuatro Knockout Event Final Table Recap and Standings

The final table was set after a grueling 10-hour battle among the 62 players. Byron Kaverman was the short stack of the final table, while Ottomar Ladva held the chip lead, and Steve O’Dwyer was in the middle of the pack.

Despite being the short stack, Kaverman doubled up through Santhosh Suvarna, saving his tournament life. It wasn’t the same for another short-stack player, Ian Bradley, as he couldn’t survive. Chip leader Ottomar Ladva sent Bradley to the rail on the money bubble.

Before the next elimination, O’Dwyer, Kaverman, and Suvarna started climbing the chip ladder. O’Dwyer won a massive pot against Ladva, taking over the chip lead.

Santhosh Suvarna crossed the 1 million chip mark after winning the pot against Martin Zamani. Later, in a crucial hand, Zamani shoved with A-Q against Suvarana’s pocket sevens. The community cards couldn’t help Zamani, sending him out on the 8th for €21,500.

Suvarna soon knocked out Brazilian player Fabiano Kovalski in 7th place (€26,900), securing another bounty. Joakim Andersson busted out in 6th place (€34,900), after going all-in in a three-way pot against Santhosh Suvarna and Byron Kaverman. Kaverman won the hand, ending Andersson’s deep run.

Ottomar Ladva, who entered the final table as chip leader, was soon left with less than 3 BBs. He put the last of his chip in the middle with A-3, and Suvarna called it with K-J. The board came out 7-3-5-4-J, and Suvarna won the hand with his top Jack. Ottomar Ladva exited the tournament in 5th place, collecting €45,700.

David Coleman, holding K-6, went all in getting called by Steve O’Dwyer, who was holding K-9. The board came out K-Q-J-A-8, and Suvarna said it was a chop. But, unfortunately, O’Dwyer K-9 won the hand, sending out Coleman in 4th place, receiving €59,100.

Steve O’Dwyer went all-in with 10-8, and Suvarna called it with his pocket nines. Suvarna was ahead of O’Dwyer in post-flop, but O’Dwyer hit a 10 on the board, taking the lead. The turn and the river couldn’t help Suvarna. Santhosh Suvarna bowed out in 3rd place, earning €77,900.

Steve O’Dwyer was ahead of Kaverman in the chip lead, so he quickly moved all in with Ac-9h, and Byron Kaverman called it with Ad-2h. The board ran out A-9-Q-4-J, and Kaverman finished as the runner-up for €107,400.

Sam Grafton is part of PokerStars’s ambassador roster and one of the best players to come out of the United Kingdom. The 44-year-old British pro shared his thoughts on the EPT 20th Anniversary, as it played a pivotal role in his career.

How the European Poker Tour Changed Grafton’s Life

Before moving on to that, you need to know about his EPT journey. In 2013, Grafton participated in his first-ever European Poker Tour. He competed in the €5,300 Main Event and finished 24th place for $31,370.

2019 was a career-changing year for the 44-year-old poker pro. Not only did Grafton make some deep runs but also scored his first-ever seven-figure score, which came in the EPT Barcelona €100,000 NLH Super High Roller. He finished as the runner-up in the €100k Super High Roller and banked a staggering $1,453,517.

In 2022, Grafton won the EPT Prague €10,200 NLH opening event for $88,196. He then made a 2nd place finish in the €25,000 NLH High Roller for $240,211. The same year, he finished 7th place in the EPT Monte Carlo €25,000 No Limit Hold’em (Event 11) for € 85,280 and followed  that up with another 7th place  in the  EPT Prague Super High Roller (Event #18) for €140,070.

Last year, he won Mystery Bounty (Event 4) at EPT Monte Carlo for € 97,900 and followed  that victory up with a win in the No Limit Hold’em (Event #38) at EPT Barcelona. Currently, he is competing in the ongoing European Poker Tour Barcelona and we are once again expecting some big score from him.

“The European Poker Tour had a huge impact on my career, and I’ve made many great memories at the stops, ” said  Sam Grafton on the eve of EPT’s recent 20th anniversary.

Who is Sam Grafton?

Sam Grafton is a British poker player with more than $15 million in live poker tournament earnings. Grafton is also an ambassador of the popular poker site, PokerStars. His story of joining poker is very different from other players of his age, unlike other players. Grafton was introduced to poker at the age of 28.

Grafton began playing poker in his hometown’s local casino and snooker halls. He then moved to London, where he started working in his aunt’s nightclub and used those payouts to play heads-up pot-limit hold’em in the International Club. He just played it as a hobby on weekends, but soon realized his prowess. Soon, the poker pro began playing five days a week and used that money to pay home rent.

Grafton never thought of poker as a profession. He always says “I am playing for rent money.” He thought professional poker players were way better than him. In 2009, the International Club was hosting the London Poker Masters series, and one dealer of the series asked Grafton to play some tournaments.

Initially, Grafton hesitated to play tournament poker, as it differed completely from cash games and was particularly very lengthy. But he thought of giving it a try, beginning his professional poker career.

Sam Grafton’s Live Poker Achievements and Winnings

As I already mentioned, his first tournament was in 2009 in the London Poker Masters series. It was a £150 NLH event where he came 6th for $1,671. He then made an 11th-place finish in the £500 NLH Main Event and earned $2,218.

Along with these two tournaments, he took part in two other tournaments that year in the International Club. In 2010, Grafton started traveling to play tournaments. His first tournament of 2010 was in the UKIPT Coventry, where he came 14th in the £550 NLH Main Event for $3,122.

He then made a 4th place finish in the GUKPT Manchester Main Event and earned $22,200, which significantly boosted Grafton’s motivation for tournaments.

In 2012, Grafton won the GUKPT London £2,625 NLH Main Event, securing his first-ever six-figure sum of $163,953. 5 years later, in 2017, Grafton scored his second $100k+ score after he triumphed in the Aussie Millions. A$10,600 Main Event for $106,156.

That same year, he scored his third six-figure score, where he came 1st in the PokerStars Festival Bucharest Main Event and banked $139,050. One year later, Grafton came 5th in the partypoker Millions Dusk Till Dawn Main Event, banking $271,012.

He scored another six-figure in the 2019 partypoker Millions South America, where he came 2nd for $114,939. In 2022, Sam Grafton won the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Cyprus $200,000 NLH Event, scoring his career-best $5,500,000.

Sam Grafton’s WSOP Run

In 2011, Sam Grafton traveled to Las Vegas and played his first ever WSOP event, which was a $2,500 NLH Six-Handed event, where he made a 14th-place finish and earned $25,769.

He played some WSOP events later but didn’t make any significant runs in the game. Rather, he would always finish in the money, but not very deep.

It was in 2019 that he finished 11th in the $50k WSOP 50th Annual High Roller, banking $101,604. That same month, he came 13th in the $100,000 WSOP NLH Event, earning $171,936.

In 2021, Grafton came close to securing a WSOP bracelet. He existed in 7th place in the WSOP Event #7: $100,000 NLH High Roller for $263,227. It wasn’t the closest he came to claiming a bracelet, as he made another final table finish in 2022 WSOP Europe where finished in 2nd place for $465,852.

Since 2022, Sam Grafton hasn’t competed in any WSOP events. As of now, Grafton has made 30 cashes and earned nearly $1.5 million in the World Series of Poker.

Sam Grafton’s Recent Cashes

2024 has been good for the poker pro. He made 5 final table finishes while winning one tournament. Grafton banked $422,000 in the Triton Poker Super High Roller Jeju, for his 9th-place finish. He won the ESPT Malaga €3,300 NLH for $66,880.
